Biography

Quartz

(She/Her)

The Star Catcher

arcanetop.png

Quartz is a tiny creature with a busy job. She catches and collects stars! Born in parts unknown, she spent her youth days traveling among the cosmos, catching fallen stars so she could energize them with her magic and release them back to the sky. With each star she collected, she whispered a wish into it before releasing it back to its heavenly home. As she continued this occupation, however, she came to realize that flying all by herself through the cosmic skies was actually making her feel lonely. She spotted a star becoming loose again, so she caught it and wished for a friend. Right after making the wish, the star fell loose from her claws and started to tumble towards earth! She gasped and chased after the star.

Each time Quartz got close to catching the star, it looped around and barely slid out of her grasp. It'd spin around and shake stardust into her face, as if it were taunting her. Quartz was determined to catch that star! The star kept rolling, tumbling, and spinning all the way to earth and the sudden shift of the atmosphere caused Quartz to lose control of herself! She tried to slow down her fast landing, but to no prevail. She feared she was about to plummet into the earth, but instead, she landed safely into a body of water. She swam up to the surface, spat out some of the water, and once again saw the star taunting her from the shore. She growled and sprung out after the mischievous being! The star, of course, dodged the stubborn dragon, and once again flew off for her to chase. Quartz felt humiliated and wanted nothing more than to catch that star. Her wings spread out and fluttering faster than ever, she extended her claw and almost had a hold of it...!

"WHOA!!"

Quartz had crashed into the face of another dragon as the star slipped up. After the rough landing, both dragons groaned and laid still with Quartz on top of the stranger. She looked up and the star gently floated down, touching the tip of one of its five corners on top of the stranger's head, which was now looking up at Quartz.

"O-Oh! I'm sorry!" The dragon apologized, which appeared to be another Nocturne like Quartz. "Was I in the way of something?" Quartz didn't reply to him. She instead finally snatched the star and squeezed it tightly in her grip, pouting at such a poor performance. The male Nocturne smiled nervously and slipped out from under Quartz.

"Did you, uh... drop something?" He asked quietly.

"I was just trying to grab this little pest here!" Replied Quartz with a slight yip to her tone. "You see, I catch stars which fall from the sky. And this little star here-" The star slipped out of her claws and zipped around the stranger's head, spinning and dancing around with stardust flying all around. When Quartz watched, it finally occurred to her what was happening.

"I... I wished for a friend, because sailing through the cosmos was getting lonely!" She recalled in awe.

The star had led her all the way down to earth where she met Fluorite, a gentlemen Nocturne with an eye for beauty. All that mayhem and mischief caused by the star was just its own way of granting her wish. After laughing about the predicament, Quartz was finally able to release the star back to its cosmetic home above. She and Fluorite have been together ever since the unusual encounter and made Sokuna their home. Each year on the Starfall Celebration, Quartz partakes in the ceremony by releasing all the stars she had collected throughout the month and uses them as a symbol of dreams, guidance, and love. In addition to this annual ritual, Quartz works a more full time job in the Dreamer's Den where she continues to collect stars and temporarily store them within the den full of sleepers and dreamers. This aura of dream magic energizes more stars at once so Quartz can release more at a time. She also helps a daydreamer named Sandscale by assisting him with her magic.
