Biography

Name: Vaselios (#83237294)
Pronouns: He/Him
Age: (Human years) 26
Appearance: Vaselios is a young, grumpy sorcerer with piercing orchid coloured eyes. He is quite a bit taller than the average Wildclaw, with an athletic build hidden beneath his ill-fitting robes. Vaselios often has ink smudges on talons and and face. Long thin cars along his tail and hind talons.
Personality: Vaselios is moody and withdrawn, preferring the company of the stars to that of dragons. He is highly intelligent and skilled in the art of astrology, but his temperament often leads him to isolation. Holds a deep grudge against Imperials.
Background: Vaselios is a Wildclaw from the Starwood Strand who was taken in by a group of Imperials as a child to be trained in their magic academy. Despite his natural talent, he was mistreated by his instructors and fellow students due to his Wildclaw heritage. This led to him developing a deep hatred for the Imperials, which he carries with him even after escaping the academy years ago. One of the most important things he learned at the academy was how to use the stars to predict the future, because of this he stargazing almost every evening, recording anything important he sees. Now, Vaselios wanders the world, continuing to build his sullen personality as a wall around his tender history, honing his skills as an astrologer and avoiding contact with those he views as enemies - Imperials.

The stars showed a path of friendship, bright and true, for a long way into the future. One day soon he would meet someone who would help him trust and find happiness.

How inconvenient. ‘I am quite content with my current life thank-you-very-much. I don’t need some sap coming to drip all over the place and mess it up.’ The Wildclaw rolled his eyes.

Vaselios was stargazing one late evening at the edge of the clan’s territory, his eyes fixated on a rare and interesting celestial alignment. Whatever the stars said, they were wrong, who would want to be his friend anyway? Vaselios was a purposely snarky and rude dragon, he didn’t particularly fancy the company of others, unless they knew their place and didn’t speak much.

Ignoring the constellation's sappy prediction, he started to sketch out the sky in his stargazing journal. Adding notes about the alignment off to the side, as well as a few more vague predictions that he could read.

After looking up again, Vaselios sighed to himself, it seemed as though a sickness was coming to the clan. More reason to keep to himself.
“Might as well warn the council about that…” He muttered to himself, scribbling a message out on a separate piece of paper.

Vaselios, turning his eyes back to the bright sky, felt a presence behind him. Not a creepy presence, just a dragon behind him. Twisting his long neck around, his eyes catch on Shadow, a young Tundra with curious eyes.

Vaselios growls, “What do you want?” he says in a low impatient voice. This dragon had kept popping up every time Vaselios went out, attempting to talk to him, trying to help him, he was quite a nuisance. Shadow just tilts his head, completely unintimidated by Vaselios’s show of teeth.

“The stars are beautiful tonight, why do you hate them so much?” he asks, gesturing to the glowing sky above the two.

Vaselios sighs, as if Shadow’s tiny brain couldn’t comprehend his complicated methods. “I don’t hate them. They’re just… annoying.” He shakes his head, “Now, why are you here?” Vaselios narrows his eyes.

“No reason. Tell me more about them.” Shadow answers vaguely, continuing on, trying to get the sorcerer to talk more. Vaselios considered this for a moment, maybe if he talked to this desperate dragon he would stop trying to annoy him? Yes, that’s it. Just this once, and then he’ll go away forever.

“Fine.” he grumbles, shifting to face the Tundra slightly. Shadow was sitting down now, expecting a lecture from the short tempered Wildclaw.

“I use the stars to predict things, mostly minor things. Like to avoid eating something because I would get food poisoning, or to not go to the library tomorrow because I would sprain my wing on the way.” Vaselios continues, going to point up at the stars “That constellation over there, is Thrash. He’s King of the Cosmos. He only rules half the year, during the Winter and Autumn months. If he comes into the throne early, that means that you should prepare for the unexpected. It also means that the cold months are coming early.” Vaselios glares at the constellation, “I don’t particularly like him, Thrash doesn’t seem to take fortune on me.”

Shadow nods along, absorbing the information Vaselios was feeding him.

The sorcerer explains where the constellations are at different times of the year, and teaches Shadow how to identify basic messages stars show regularly.

“Though not always accurate, you never know when these small predictions will come into use.” Vaselios says, finishing off his teachings. He looked over at Shadow, who was smiling and continuing to scan the sky with his electric blue eyes.

“Thank-you for showing me this, it’s quite amazing what one thinks they know about something, and they find out they only know virtually nothing compared to someone else.” Shadow grinned brightly over to his companion. “I should be going, I think we live near-ish to each other, would you like some company on the way home?”

“No.” He snaps gathering up his things, putting them in his small satchel.

“Oh, alright then. See you around.” Shadow says politely, turning to fly away.

Vaselios frowns, what was this squirmy terrible feeling in his gut? He wanted to stab and stab it and murder it until it died and went away. What was this feeling??
Oh. He felt guilty. Wait, why would Vaselios be guilty? This dragon was a nuisance! “Rrrrrgh-” He growled to himself, regretting what he was about to say.

“Wait! Oh pine needles- “ He cursed, “Alright, alright, fine. You can fly home with me.” Vaselios growled, sliding his satchel over his shoulder. Shadow came skipping over, wings flung out in glee, a stupid grin plastered all over his stupid, stupid, fluffy Tundra face.

“I knew you would like me! You’re nicer than you let on aren't you?? We’re going to be friends! Yaaay!” He bounded over spewing all those disgustingly melty things, wrapping his large furry arms around the bigger Wildclaw before Vaselios could protest.

“Ack! No! Personal space! No hugs! BLEH.” He panicked, squirming around and pushing Shadow away from him.

“You’ll love my hugs soon enough!” He said in a sing-song voice, prancing away and taking to the skies. He hovered slightly away from Vaselios energetically, beating his wings against gravity. “Race you back to yours!” He grinned, zipping off before the Wildclaw could interject.

“Wait! No-” He yelled, quickly leaping into the air rushing onward to catch up. “Races.” He finished under his breath, shaking his head at this ridiculous Tundra.

This would be a long flight.

But even though Vaselios didn’t know it, somewheres under the tough scales he had grown over the years, a small blossom of happiness was beginning to spread its petals and reach towards a happier future.
