Ptarmigan's charge was a fae male - named Jenko - who died under his protection. He doesn't talk about it and no-one except his partner Gull knows what happened. He stays with the clan for her, but he's very different than he used to be.

It is rumoured that the wing bangles he wears were given to him by Jenko.
