The room reeked of isolation and self pity. Hunched over a book stood Tehran, using his finger to guide his eyes along the words written by his ex-lover. Despite the time passed, he still sat there: cold, and plagued by what he could have been. He stared at the subtle elegance that leaked out of the kings writing, taking a swig of the bright orange liquid swirling in a bottle on his desk. He covered his eyes, squinting through the brightness coming from the door, to be greeted by the very gaoler he had missed for so long.

Tehran had spent the years after Hamunaptra clan's disappearance locked away in a hut, hidden from the world. The few times he left were only to hunt for food, and to search for any signs of the Scorpion King's remains. After the arrest, rumors circled the clan, saying that before everyone disappeared, the Scorpion King had been executed and buried in the same place he was called a king. Tehran couldn't help but hope that one day he would run into the gaoler, but as more time passed he assumed it was a lost cause. The people of the Hamunaptra clan however were long forgotten by Tehran. The most he remembered about the community were the secrets he was always keeping from them. Tehran had been the secret lover of the Scorpion King in private. In public however, Tehran was just his advisor, and the clan was reluctant to give him any attention. He spent the majority of his time reading books about topics that interested him, greatly building his intelligence. After Tehran processed the death of the Scorpion King, he began seeing what he assumed was his ghost watching over him. Almost like an imaginary friend, his past lover was always around. He had nobody to speak to about this occurrence, but the sane part of his brain wondered if it had something to do with the potions he had been consuming. To cope with the loss of someone so important to him, he began micro-dosing special poisons he stole from Vladislaus before the fall of the clan. Now, hallucinations seemed to be a regular part of Tehran’s experience. When the Scorpion King stood in his door frame, he assumed it had been the wind, and his imagination. The gaoler looked no different than in his usual hallucinations, only a tad slimmer. When he spoke however, it changed everything. Tehran's heart skipped a beat at the sound of his ex-lover’s voice; it made his chest feel like it was on fire. Every emotion Tehran had ever felt about the Scorpion King held him in a chokehold. He dropped to his knees at the intensity of it, and called out his name. The love of his life put his head in his fur and held him tight, the scent of ashes and sand filling his nose. Somehow he felt nothing but peace despite all the sadness he held before. Relief was an understatement for what Tehran felt after it all. They sat on the floor with the door wide open for quite some time. Truthfully, Tehran couldn't fathom anything else besides the fact that he was in his love’s arms. He doubted the gaoler held any of the same emotions he did- but it just felt so good to dream that they were returned. Eventually, the Scorpion King pulled away, to ask the one question that would change everything for him. ”Can I take you to my new clan, advisor?”
