Biography
This storm was named Elliott.
Much of the USA was hit with a Bomb Cyclone. Blizzard Warnings were issued from 12-23 to 12-24. A frigid Siberian air mass coming out of Canada made for treacherous conditions that caused much of the country to stay home and hibernate. Many major roads drifted shut and were closed by the police as cars and Semis were pulled out of ditches etc. It was reported that visibility was down to the front hood of a vehicle in many cases.
Families lost loved ones in this storm. Please, If you don't have to travel don't. It's not worth the risk.
Freezing cold temperatures made there way as far south as Texas and Florida. Thousands lost power due to the high winds, falling trees and ice.
Personal note.
A hip high snow drift blocking the garage door helped to keep air drafts out of the garage. Snow on the roof prevented heat loss to extremely cold air. Same with every window frame being blockaded with a mound of snow. Nature's insulation.
Don't plan on going out of the house until the wind dies down and snow quits coming down so heavy. Wind is blowing about 40 mph atm. Snow blowing is useless. We are postponing Family Christmas gathering until the 25. Hopefully, the roads will be clearer by then.
