"how did we get here." it's not a question, but you still shrug. you don't know either. all you can do is stare at me with those wide eyes, those sad eyes. guilty eyes, dull eyes. i don't know how we got here, this time of not knowing each other, of ignoring the each other's messages till days on end, of not trusting each other with our thoughts and feelings. there isn't a time either of us can pinpoint to say, "look, this is why we broke."
sometimes i remember watching the same sky from different balconies. remember long nights spent comforting each other, or simply sitting together in silence. trying new recipes together. walks throughout town talking the day away with nonsense and everything important to us, all at once. (hand in hand, arm in arm, two parts of the same whole; inseparable.i miss that warmth.) excitedly whispering dreams of a future together to each other. sending pictures of skies that we especially liked. painting the same views and laughing at the results. i wonder if you ever think of the same things as me. of long-lost ideas of cottoncandy skies, botanical houses and shared warmth. i wonder if you ever miss the same things as me.
i remember these things whenever i watch the sun set. it feels like the sky is now irrevocably linked to you. like it belongs to you, like maybe i don't have the right to watch it now that i don't have you to share it with.
i guess that's just how first loves are.
