Characters Involved
These are actual exalted siblings of Oakwylt! Also, in age order. I used siblings from Shockwave's page.
SHARP
RAVE
SHADOWHIDE
OAKWYLT
Also can't forget our Parda boy!
ICTER
We've been sent to assess recent damage to a forest by the Plague, there's been speculations that it could be spreading fast.. here.
I point to a section of the map, as Shadowhide, my sibling looks past my woodlike wings to gaze at the spot.
'What is the Plaguebringer up to now?'
Shadowhide's brow furrows in concern, yet I see a hint of curiosity. Just like Shadowhide always acts. Sharp and Rave are also gazing upon the map, mumbling about how terrible the Plague is.. despite the fact that they literally originate from it, but it would be rude to tell them what to do based on species origin. Not to mention, plain dumb.
'Let's get going, no time to waste.'
Sharp has always been the time efficient, pushy sibling. Rave doesn't care as much, that's one way they can be told apart. Although those two can seem identical at first apart from Rave's darker eyes, Shadowhide and I are obvious.. Shadowhide being a coatl and I, a Wildclaw with astonishingly realistic forestlike patterns. Some of my flight members think I'm blessed by the Gladekeeper or whatever. I don't believe it. That sounds like a fancy phrase meant to tell me I'm not normal. But who cares? Enough thinking, we've got to check the area. I flap my wings and start forwards, leaping into the air. My siblings understand and are taking off behind me. I wonder what's out there..
W-what the-?!
I stop midflight, hovering in astonishment.
It's taken over! This is worse than inside of their borders!
We're all just staring, for what seems like hours, until Sharp takes the initiative and lands. We all follow suit.
'This isn't similar to any of the previously documented incidents..'
Rave, as careless as he is, even seems uneasy. Shadowhide and Sharp prod around, trekking carefully. I dare not to move. Pits of acidic substance stretching unfathomable wide, pulsing sacs of unidentified fluids, and fleshy earth are in the place of what was once a small, flourishing grove. Suddenly, Rave shrieks, and my head jerks instinctively to his position. I freeze in shock.
'Don't just stand there! He's fallen in!'
Sharp screams at our sister and I, and mind you, we were already picking our ways over. Sharp held desperately onto Rave, pulling him up. But it wouldn't work, Rave is just as heavy as his older brother.. Sharp wasn't strong enough to pull him up. They both tumbled in and screamed in haunting agony as they melted into the mass. Shadowhide instantly broke down and collapsed on my shoulders, sobbing. I tried my best to comfort her.
It's okay. But for now, we've got to escape, Shadowhide. Start running this way. We're in danger as long as we stay put.
Shadowhide, lost in anguish, agrees without question and begins darting for natural earth, as do I. I just know that we were both longing for nature's touch at this point. Her guidance. But then, as I've feared the most, Shadowhide roars in surprise somewhere ahead. I dart towards her. I can't lose my only other sibling-! But it's too late. Something.. some creature has her, and the damage is already far past done. All I can do is turn tail and run, but the creature snags on my robes, gouging my side.. My instincts take over, and when I realize that I've actually escaped, I flop down by the familiar trees, panting. Something feels wrong.
I stared.
The claw mark in my side is filled with a trace of that vile plague. I'm.. I can't return home. I'm a liability now, all I can do is run. Run, far away. And so I will. In one day, an entire group of siblings gone missing. Time is passing. My robes are fraying, the vines adorning them are going into decay. I feel so weak.. but eating doesn't help. There's sniffing in the distance. I turn, and to my surprise, my pet Parda leaps over to me in excitement. I smile for the first time in a while.
I'm glad to see you too.. Icter..
Both Icter and I know what is going on, but I must tell you, that Parda has a heart of gold. What would I ever do without him? He is sticking by my side through thick and thin, even as I carry on. I'm beginning to deteriorate, just like the forest.. It's getting colder. I'm so lost and hungry, as with Icter. Icter.. I feel sorry now for bringing him into this. I miss my clanmates, my entire flight. But I can't go home. They wouldn't stand to see me like this. I will NOT allow it.
