Rhyme might be one of the clan leader's offspring but is not related to the matriarch Nocturnia by blood. That puts her in a somewhat difficult position within her own clan. On the one hand she's part of the succession, on the other hand will very likely always be in the last spot. Since she showed potential for wielding Shadow magic she's been apprenticed to the matriarch herself to learn the trait along with her not-sister and eternal rival Noctis. As a result Rhyme learned to school her body language to cover her feelings of anger and disappointment and turned herself into a picture of modesty and an eager to please student.
But deep inside Rhyme truly yearns for her matriarch's approval, more so since her own mother was exalted to the ranks of the Shadowbinder. Although she also wants to be free of her teacher's always judging eyes. Her conflicting feelings make her sullen and moody at times but usually it doesn't take her long to get back to her true playful and curious personality. It's because her clan also appreciates diversity and unites all kind of dragon breeds and characters that she hasn't flown off on her own some time ago.
