Evangeline is perhaps one of the most dangerous dragons in the clan, although never to the dragons closest to her. She is the first to investigate unfamiliar dragons and areas and the last to sleep at night (although her clanmates have repeatedly assured her that it is okay for someone else to take the shift). When the clan happens across an enemy's path or wanders into hostile territory, she uses her quick thinking and adept strength to get them to safety.

Evangeline is usually found standing at attention at the camp perimeter, scrutinizing the surrounding area. She often accompanies clan members on journeys outside of camp, especially in unfamiliar areas. She also has a habit of following behind any dragons from outside the clan just in case they pose any danger. Although not the most friendly of dragons, she is fiercely loyal to the clan leader, Trixx, and considers her one of her only good friends. She has also befriended the stoic coatl Branwen, bonding over shared tragedy and found strength. She and her mate, Petrichor, can sometimes be caught stealing moments together between shifts. Although their love is not very outwardly visible, they care about each other deeply and would follow each other to their graves.

New recruits often find themselves being shadowed by a dragon who is anything but shadows, and sometimes even get forthright interrogated. Evangeline is a dragon who takes no chances, and she will do everything it takes to fulfill her responsibility and protect her clanmates. If that means throwing away tact and grilling dragons with blunt questions, so be it. However, once they gain her trust, they earn her protection as well, so most of them just go with it.

She is never seen without her armor or her weapons. She also keeps her golden porpoise, Apollo, by her side, as he is actually a very useful asset in battle, and can also be used to signal for backup. She keeps her sacridite cluster in a small pouch concealed by her armor as tribute to her family, and one of the few posessions she retained from her upbringing.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Evangeline spent her early childhood in a clan in the Sunbeam ruins, raised by her loving parents alongside her twin sister Archangela. Although it is hard for some of her clanmates (and enemies) to believe, she was once a lighthearted, carefree, mischievous hatchling, and enjoyed games, her father's jokes, and wildflowers. Her parents gave both her and her sister a sacredite crystal for their second hatching day, and it is to this day her most prized posession.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck when she was no older than three years old: nearby clans got into a battle over territory, and in the carnage no one bothered to properly dispose of several imperial bodies. An emperor rose up and decimated the armies more than they could harm each other. All surrounding clans were called in to fight against this new threat. Evangeline's parents were among the soldiers sent out to battle, leaving their children at home.

Evangeline and Archangela were able to live on their own for a few days, having plenty of food stores and each other's company. However, on the fifth day, loners and dragons from smaller clans took advantage of the fact that the warriors were off fighting their own battle and pillaged the unguarded homes. The sisters were forced to run for their lives as dragons broke into their home in search of valuables, taking nothing but a handful of food and the crystals their parents had given them.

They avoided the battlegrounds as best as they could, hoping to stay away from dragons with weapons and bad intentions. They ran into their parents' friend Marth, who regretfully informed them that their parents had both been killed in the battle. She had promised to protect her best friends' children and had just been on her way to get them so they could move to Marth's home clan in Dragonhome. They were devastated, but knew they didn't have time to stop and grieve.

As they were traveling through the Tangled Wood, they were ambushed. Marth was killed forthright, but Evangeline and her sister were able to run away and lose their pursuers. Unfortunately, they got separated in the dark woods. Archangela, her sister would later find out, had been found and taken in by Tangerine and Starburst, a very kind couple who lived in the area. Evangeline, however, was left to wander for days, drinking little and eating even less.

When she was found by a group of dragons that actually seemed very friendly, she joined them with immense relief. She was a physical and emotional mess, and having adults to help her out was a lifesaver. The group called themselves the Vigil of Light. The leader told her that they fought for justice among unfair clans, and she could help them if she were to join. Desperate for help and intrigued by the cause, she accepted the offer without a second thought.

From there her life became rigorous training. Nothing mattered but fighting skills and the business of other clans. The Vigil traveled from region to region, attacking unpunished perpetrators of crime and returning stolen goods to their original owners. Evangeline became one of their strongest warriors, pushing herself to be the best at every task in order to be allowed on missions.

It was not until she was older that she began to notice that something was amiss. Dragons from other clans shrank away in fear from the Vigil, even when they were returning lost valuables. In fact, a few times when she was scouting or on watch, she caught the leader of the vigil receiving payment from shadowy dragons or from shaking civilians. She realized that she was assisting dragons who pretended to be protectors but were just as bad, maybe worse, than the criminals they were punishing. However, anyone who left the Vigil was deemed a traitor and punished in the name of Light. So, on a quiet night, she packed her armor and weapons, tucked her crystal safely in her scarf, and slipped away into the darkness.

The next few years were spent travelling from clan to clan, employed as a body guard or night watchman or other similar jobs. While this satisfied her moral standards, she was not content, as she never became close with any of the clans she traveled with. Additionally, as she was able to reflect more on her own, she discovered that she still bore mental wounds from her childhood. She refused to let her emotions get the better of her, however, and increased her workload in order to distract herself.

Thankfully, before her destructive behavior got too far, she was found by Trixx. The lively fae was looking to trade with the clan she was currently stationed with and struck up a conversation while waiting for the shop owner to return. When Evangeline found out that her clan consisted of only a small group of dragons, and not one of them was a warrior, she was very concerned. Especially because Trixx was the least cautious dragon she had ever met.

She quit her job with the clan (the dragons were unfriendly and she wasn't doing anything very important, anyway) and went with Trixx. The other members of her clan were friendly and welcoming, excited to have a new clan member (she didn't have the heart to tell them she probably was going to leave once they had a few warriors of their own). Trixx stubbornly refused to formally 'hire' her, insisting that she was part of the family now, whether she liked it or not.

She did end up liking it. Quite a lot, actually. The dragons were friendly and, more importantly, genuine. She found herself enjoying spending time with them, telling stories to Trixx, chatting with Everest, and teasing Aspen. She found that Branwen was a sort of kindred spirit, both made strong by tragedy. They became very close as they helped each other heal from the wounds of their pasts.

She realized that she cared about this clan, more than she had cared in a long time. And suddenly her job became that much more important. No one, no one was going to harm her clanmates.

She made it her personal mission to take care of them, often putting herself in danger (not that that mattered to her in the slightest). It was on one of these escapades, a skirmish against a clan that had attempted to steal Trixx's eggs (not on her watch!) that she met Petrichor.

She was occupied with two of the perpetrators and was not able to see the dragon sneaking up behind her. She turned around just in time to realize the danger, but not enough time to react. Before the dragon could strike, however, a pale green wildclaw smashed into his side and knocked him unconscious with a powerful blow to the head. He looked back and gave her a confident smile, not noticing yet another dragon rushing at him from the side. She threw her battle axe, hit the dragon hilt-first in the forehead, and smiled right back at him. The instantaneous mutual respect laid the foundation for something much greater.

After the battle was over, she talked to the dragon that had saved her life. His name was Petrichor, and he had been trying to stop this band of egg thieves after they had taken (an eaten, to her horror) his friends' clutch of eggs months before. He thanked her for her help and asked her if she knew of a place to rest for a few days. She offered to let him stay with the clan.

The more time she spent with him, which coincidentally, ended up being a lot more than a few days, the more she came to realize that she was falling for him. She was drawn to his honor code and strength, alongside his incredible skill with a bow (that she had never quite been able to master herself). She was very open and blunt about her feelings, which would have shocked anyone but Petrichor. Instead, he smiled that debonair grin he had given her that first day and told her he felt exactly the same. They have been strong mates ever since, and an indomitable pair in battle.

It was not long before they raised hatchlings of their own. It was in this endeavor that a softer side of Evangeline emerged; after all, her fond memories of her loving parents and sister so long ago were something she held dear to her heart. Her children would never have to endure her tragedies, but she raised them to be strong in their own ways, and to follow their instincts. They grew up to be determined and skilled individuals, and no mother could have been more proud than she.

That was not the last of good things to happen to Evangeline. Of course not. Fate had more plans in store.

While visiting their regular stop in Lumina Lane, a lovely town in Wispwillow Grove, Evangeline went along with Trixx to a meeting with the residing supervisor (not technically guarding her, as the residents seemed very friendly for the most part, but just as a precaution). There, sitting behind a large desk covered in paperwork, was her sister Archangela.

That accidental reunion was the first time she had cried in years. After a long hug and even longer conversation, they caught each other up on the events of their lives. Archangela was appalled at her sister's involvement in a shady organization (and relieved at her escape), and Evangeline was ecstatic that she had been safe and taken care of over the years. They promised to keep in touch, and write letters to one another often. Evangeline looks forward to their Lumina Lane visits, especially ever since she became an aunt.
