Biography
I don't want their thanks. Or their respect. You know what I felt, standing shoulder to shoulder with those people out there? Nothing. I... feel... absolutely nothing... for those drab... boring people. That was me once. Minimum wage at a thankless job at the GCPD. "Yes, sir. No, sir. Thank you so much, sir." Picking up scraps from my master's floor. Shy, awkward... pathetic Ed. Common criminals? Never again. I've shown this city who I truly am once before, and I will do it again. They will bow to the Riddler, and they won't get up until I permit them to.
Edward E. Nygma, also known as the Riddler, is a notorious villain and murderer within the city of Gotham. He has a serious obsession with riddles. He has a compulsion to put a clue at the scene of every crime he commits, a desperate desire to outsmart the GCPD– and a certain Bat– and prove his intelligence not only to everyone, but also to himself. He is many things; an art thief, a bank robber, a terrorist, but in all his roles, he is quite the showman. He owns a game-show, the Riddle Factory, where he kidnaps unwilling participants to play his game. The rules are simple: he'll tell them a riddle, and if they get it correct, they must come up with their own. If they stump him, they live, and even win a large amount of money. If they lose in either of these challenges, his serthis assistants, Echo and Query, spin the "Wheel of Misfortune" to decide how the victim is to die. However, as it turns out, he wasn't always like this. He used to be a good dragon, even worked for the GCPD in forensics; his only problem back then was his horrible social anxiety. Fate just has a way of turning some dragons' lives upside-down. Though, he would argue that his life changed for the better. As Ed Nygma, he was a bumbling nerd who could never fit in, but now, as the Riddler, he is a confident, intelligent villain with more friends than he's ever had before; One. The Penguin helped him discover many things about himself, and for that Edward is incredibly grateful. Their relationship has had its ups and downs, sure, but to this day they are still very close. Riddler has a difficult time deciding where his feelings for the other villain truly lies. He's been with many female dragons, but none of them can compare to the puzzle that is Oswald Cobblepot.
