Of familiar and change
As her childhood neared its close, Quiscula was visited by a jade troodo with an inquisitive but somewhat sad air. The two took to each other quickly, Quis' new familiar explaining that his first bonded dragon had left him (not revealing the circumstances of this departure) and that he'd been living many seasons with his first bond's former mate, a coatl named Aldebaran.
"Alde is kind. Perhaps you'd like to meet him. But it's time for a change," said the jade troodo.
"It's time for a change," agreed Quis. They left the secluded hotsprings where many of the clan's coatl lived, heading toward the wide grey river to seek their path. The strange folded piece of paper that often showed up to serve as a childhood familiar to the clan's hatchlings sighed, unfurled itself, and sailed away on the breeze to seek a new charge.
