written by awadeen When Melancholy first hatched out of her egg, she was spoiled rotten. Her parents showered her with gifts and jewels and gems galore- she had everything a dragon could ever ask for. She wore jewels upon jewels all over her, gold all over her scales encapsulating her beauty. But this pampering did not come without a price. Melancholy’s parents would often argue, leaving her sad and with lingering depression. Her parents would buy her love and happiness, and quickly the excitement wore off. She would receive something new almost every week, big or small, it didn’t matter. Melancholy later in life resented her parents, their arguing and abuse grew too much. As soon as she was old enough to leave, she fled her family and went to find a new clan to join. Melancholy spent long months without a home, using her parent’s jewels and trinkets they gave her to live by the Trading Post. While buying some food, Melancholy witnessed a fight, a terrible, terrible fight. There was blood all over the fighting dragons, and Melancholy fled. She ran and ran and ran until she stumbled into a clan of about 100 dragons. Starbloom. Melancholy apologized for running into the clan, and their leader, Lapis, was very kind. Melancholy explained how she was homeless and needed somewhere to stay. Lapis had happily invited her to join Starbloom, and Melancholy graciously accepted. Melancholy quickly grew friends with Queen Spahira of the Vally Of Light section. She also became friends with King Starfall of Bloodboon. Melancholy had also caught the eye of another dragon. Sorrow was his name. A silent male Imperial. Sorrow was so in love with Melancholy, he watched her from afar and was too scared to say anything to her. Melancholy met everyone in the clan, and eventually found her way to Sorrow. She remembers it well- The way he played with his talons, his beautiful smile, and his sweet shyness. Melancholy talked to him almost every day. They became best friends, and eventually, Sorrow asked her to be his mate. She accepted, and the two loved each other more than anything. Melancholy and Sorrow married later, and plan on having eggs one day. Sorrow constantly tells Melancholy he loves her and even came up with the nickname “Mel” for her. She goes by Mel most of the time now, and rarely Melan. She hangs out with Saphira, Lapis, and Starfall a lot. In the Valley Of Light, she’s referred to as Princess Melancholy (Sorrow being Prince Sorrow, of course) Queen Saphira and Queen Lainie even had crowns made for both of them and treats them like family. Lapis and Melancholy became friends after she joined, and Melancholy will never forget her kindness. Melancholy is the happiest dragon in the world, she says and is loved by so many dragons. She loves her new life and is so glad she ran away when she did. Melancholy can’t wait to have eggs with Sorrow and is ready to give them all the love in the world. |
