This guy being 'abandoned' wasn't actually intentional and he didn't run away - the hatchling decided to go swimming in a river near his lair, and ended up getting swept away. He ended up being rescued by a member of the refuge, who brought them back to the cleft for medical attention. He stayed at the cleft for a week or so before word of the search reached the refuge, and they brought him back to his original clan along with the messenger. He'd made good friends with the other hatchlings, though, so playdates / hangouts occurred every once and a while until the group were adults. He moved in with [friend or longtime girlfriend] a few months after they reached adulthood.
