Scott sat idle atop the abandoned country club, the worn shingles digging their rough grooves into his back. The cool night air left a thin layer of condensation on his skin, but the brilliance of the sky made up for the slight discomfort. At the shallow end of the mossy pool, a walker in a bathing suit stumbled about aimlessly, though Scott felt no fear at its presence. He had gotten used to the undead creatures, and tonight was too peaceful to be ruined by a single wayward rotter.

"Mind if I join you?" Scott turned to meet the familiar voice. That was his other cause for ease: his kindhearted traveling companion, Jay. It was hard to fear walkers when you lived and slept alongside one. Besides, Scott knew that Jay would always protect him from whatever threats may lurk out there in the wasteland.
