Biography

Xmum4Yu.png
FDJKWIs.png Vesper
An intelligent and prideful creature chased from her home for her deeds. She serves in the present as an archivist under The King of the Wood, using her position to dip into ancient texts and study the dark arcane writings of the mad ruler. She hopes one day to perhaps attain the same skill in magic, perhaps even to rule, herself.
Vesper is an Icarus in all things - devoting herself so deeply and blindly to that which stirs her that she cannot see the faults in her designs until everything comes crashing down around her.

History

It was the first of her great ambitions which led to her banishment. Born into the Capitol on the isle of Charmopoli to two powerful members of the upper echelons there, she was raised with the elegance and grace of her mother, and under the watchful eye of her controlling, proud father. Alongside her was her far meeker brother, Velatrix. While she bore a streak of her father's pride, and shined with her mother's beauty, Velatrix was far more reserved, a quiet, dutiful child, and he often found himself an accomplice or even a scape goat in his sister's schemes.

Vesper herself would submit to no one, though they might not think it - she made an effort to appear obedient and well mannered for the sake of her parents reputation. Part of her resented the weight of her responsibility - to be poised, performative and respectable in the grandiose world of the Capitol.

Yet, with her lofty birth came many advantages - with her father's reputation and her mother's charm, she grew daring and arrogant, delighting in testing the power she had over her parents' subordinates. This was only the beginnings of her slights, however. Of high birth, but only of a lowly title, she quickly grew bored with her slight power, and sought to begin studying to attain a higher rank, perhaps even to one day supplant one of her parents.

She began incredibly studiously, setting aside her leisure in favor of grueling study - but it wasn't enough. The dusty books and knowledge at the surface of the Capitol's wealth of texts could only give her so much, and she deserved more. As her studies went on, she began to delight in the practice of magic, and used her new skills to trespass, steal and forge, worming her way into forbidden archives and procuring texts even she struggled to understand - but all the same, she delved into them, spirited them away. For so long she got away with these small crimes, and how proud she was at first of her deceit and stealth. Vesper was untouchable.

With this arrogance came her fall - deep into dark, unholy magic, and lacking the control she imagined, her ambitions came to a head with a catastrophic event that greatly damaged several structures in the capitol. With the attention she drew, her actions were shortly uncovered, not one accident but a slew of stolen, forbidden books, contraband, slights against the Capitol's residents and law, ending in a disaster in which many were maimed or injured by her hubris.

For her crimes, she faced exile, though she did not go alone. As she fled, Velatrix met her at the edge of Charmopoli's shores, blameless himself but unwilling to let her go alone into a strange, lawless world. He did not know Vesper's reasoning, but feeling alone himself in the Capitol, struck out with her despite her shame.
