Biography
Something something trans male cursed pirate
Yuyami was born to the water, a creature that many mariners feared. Rightfully so - Sirens’ entire purpose is to lead them to destruction. And he rejoiced in it - drowning lusting sailors, yes, but taking their hard-earned treasure too.
Alone he traveled, with his small collection of trophies from his victims, discovering himself as much as the world arond him. All sirens are born female, their male counterparts being Tritons - a completely different threat to seafarers. Yuyami realized very early on, though, that he was not female. So he changed his name, his appearance, and presented himself as male to those he met on his journeys. Some seafolk found a male siren odd - but none were outright rude or cruel to him. He was, after all, still very good at what he did.
His travels led him to a deep, uncharted part of the sea. Unbeknownst to him, only magic-workers lived and ***** through there, and not the kind anyone wanted to trifle with. So when a ship came, he obviously slipped to the surface of the water and sang to it’s crew. They were immediately drawn to the deck, gazing out into the water that was starting to streak gold from the rays of the setting sun. A fitting effect, Yuyami thought.
A crewmate jumped overboard, and Yuyami inwardly smiled smugly. Another job well done. That was, until they got closer. A young, feminine pirate, with a scar over their right eye. They said the usual ramble about Yuyami’s beauty, and just as he was about to drown them, they said something a bit different.
“I want it for myself.”
This gave the siren pause, and when they looked up all they saw was the blinding flash of magic. A spell, they would later come to realize, that had painted Yuyami’s skin with the colours of the waters, at the time, and cursed him with twisting, slimy tentacles. They were hideous.
He floated aimlessly through the ocean for a while, defeated. He couldn’t work like this; couldnt fulfill his purpose. It was over.
The next ship he saw gave him a sick feeling in his gut. The Flying Maiden, it read on the hull. It looked to belong to pirates - always the most easy to lure to their watery deaths. This crew proved to be different, though. Spotting Yuyami peering from the water, they actually talked to him. They pulled him aboard, dusted him off, and fostered new life in him. Instead of lurking below the ships, waiting to pull their crew under, he now works to keep one afloat.
