 Somewhere In The Distance by skymuted A dragon who holds the title of “The Raven”, Nightlight’s tale was one that started out from tragedy, and one about the journey of a lonely dragon rising from the ashes and finding his new home. Born in a Coatl-dominant clan, Nightlight’s parents were regarded with disdain due to their dark colors, even more so when they had an egg together. From the moment he hatched, everyone else around him dubbed the hatchling as an omen of disaster, a herald of bad luck that should be avoided at all costs. This sentiment was not shared by his parents, who doted on their child and gave him the best they could. When he first matured into a fully grown adult dragon, Nightlight’s elemental powers began to awaken - in a rare case of fluid harmony between the wielder and their flight, the Obelisk was able to blend in seamlessly with the shadows by activating an ability that allowed him to remain invisible as long as darkness was there to provide cover. Yet again, while his parents were extremely proud of him for discovering a useful talent, most of the other dragons reacted in horror, screaming whenever they saw the cloud of black, wispy smoke that accompanied his fading into the background. The situation became dire when most of the clan’s high ranking members came to an unanimous conclusion for the dragon to be exiled or executed. Nightlight’s parents refused to give in to their demands, and the family made an escape on a moonless night, slowly gathering resources to build a safe dwelling of their own. By the time they have found refuge in the deep, dark forests of the Shadow realm, Nightlight’s emotional state had already been severely affected - he believed that he was guilty for making his parents give up their comfortable positions in their old clan, and his already low self-esteem from a life of being viewed with disgust only became worse when Glimmer, his old clanmate and girlfriend, had turned her back on him immediately and agreed to his imminent execution. But nothing could compare to the crushing pain he felt when his parents, after completing their painstaking quest of constructing a new lair enough to accommodate their little family, passed away from an illness unknown to them. Nightlight believed that every rumor spread about him since then was true - it was his presence that caused ill luck to fall upon even his loved ones. The Obelisk isolated himself in despair, only venturing far enough to hunt for food, but the occasional stranger he managed to encounter all ran in fear, further spreading the urban legend surrounding the forest belonging to “The Phantom”. Everything changed when two dragons entered his life in a series of events that couldn’t be explained by anything other than destiny: one was a Wildclaw with the colors of the warm sunshine, a sight that was foreign to Nightlight; the other was a tiny Fae with scales that shimmered like the moonlight, their silver radiance cold but captivating. Against all odds, the two strangers found their way into the dark dragon’s heart, beginning a journey to healing that he had never thought he would undertake. Viridian, the golden dragon named after his beautiful green eyes, was just as bright as his colors suggested - he was the reason Nightlight managed to reveal his own sweet, gentle side hidden behind his sadness and pain, leading to them developing mutual affection for each other. Sylvester, on the other hand, was a lone wolf used to isolation much like Nightlight himself. Despite the small dragon’s prickly, distant nature, he had slowly uncovered the true reason behind it - finding out that their losses in the past were more similar to each other than they could have ever imagined. It took a long time for the three to eventually address the growing feelings they had for each other - but when they finally did, Nightlight had found the courage to declare his love for both dragons, conveying his desire to stay with them. Even though both Nightlight and Sylvester, being forest dwellers for most of their lives, hesitated a bit when Viridian proposed that they move into the Clan Of Starchasers, they quickly realized that it was the best choice they could have ever made. There, in his new home, he slowly got in touch with his artistic side, offering to come up with illustrations for the resident writers. Nightlight’s journey to fully healing is still ongoing - but this time, he believes that one major difference would finally open a door in life leading to affection and belonging. The difference? He wasn’t alone anymore. It didn’t mean that it was easy - he still wakes up from night terrors fueled by remnants of his past on bad days, but Viridian and Sylvester are quick to comfort him whenever they happen, soothing his hurtful thoughts with their loving words and gentle hugs.
