Biography
Beloved HE / HIM The Nameless Beastiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee |
Sequestered away in the heart of the Shaded Forest, in a desolate dungeon hidden within the depths of a moonlit castle, a nameless beast dwells. He does not recall why he had been imprisoned, for they had locked him away deep underground many, many years ago. He assumes, anyway -- he's watched the faces of the young, nervous servants that bring scraps and bones for him to gnaw on grow older, less timid. They now know The Beast Below The Castle will not harm them if kept well fed, and if they abide by the safe paths they have memorized. Perhaps, he has wondered, he was put here for some dastardly crime he committed in the past... Or maybe he was intended to protect it, like a half-feral guard dog. Regardless, he cannot remember, nor does any who come down into the dungeon seem to recall (he hears the servants whisper to one another, calling him things such as beast and monster, and while he can see the painful fragments of truth in those unkind words -- his form is twisted, chimeric, and unlike other dragons or fae he has seen, so there must be some truth, he thinks -- he has never caught any mention of his purpose for being down here, nor does he suppose any would be willing to tell him...). Even his name is lost to him. Or perhaps it was taken. Only one soul braves the twisting stone stairs to truly visit him -- Only one soul dares speak to the Beast With No Name, to draw his attention, to know him as more than just a frightening myth. The Lunar Princess She had found herself within the winding halls of the dungeon by accident, he recalled -- She had been attempting to escape the ire of her father, the Lunar King. The poor thing had been shaking like a newborn faun, eyes darting around each and every darkened corner, no doubt expecting the Beast of the Lunar Castle to appear and tear her apart at any moment. He had huddled in the shadows, and spoken in a whisper, rough and creaky from disuse: "Dear maiden, do not despair, for I shall show you the path forward. I only ask that you allow me to remain unseen, for I do not wish to frighten you with my appearance," He had led her down the halls, until the faint glow of torchlight signaled their return to the main stairway. He watched the Lunar maiden enter the warm, golden light. He could not follow. That was her world. His lay within these crypt-like halls. He'd half expected her to scurry up the stairs to escape him and the cold dungeon as quickly as she possibly could, but instead, she had paused at the first step and looked back into the dark where he remained. "Kind Beast, thank you for your aid; I could not of found my way back without your guidance. Your reputation seems unkind, and not entirely true... I should like to know your name, to thank you properly," She had spoken in a voice as light and clear as the chime of a silver bell. He could not answer, for he had no name to give. He retreated back into the darkness, expecting her to never return, and that the unfamiliar sting of loneliness and sorrow he felt might soon subside with the slow creeping of time. It must have been only a day or two before the maiden once more descended into the dungeons, this time of her own choosing. "I know not what to repay you with, nor if what you truly desire is within my power, but at the very least, might I keep you company? It must be lonely down here, in the dark with no stars nor moonlight," A long silence grew between them, before he at last replied: "Very well, Maiden," She visited him many times over after that, occasionally even bringing gifts: She read books to him, brought food and drink of such quality he had not tasted in centuries, and sang songs for him in her silver-chime voice. And though he still hid his appearance from her, fearful that she might abandon him once she came to learn what a horrible creature he really was, they came to know each other dearly, safe in each other's company. And through the Lunar Princesses love of endearments, it seemed he came to once more have a name: Beloved. -
