Biography

Hailing from a clan of scholars near the Tourmaline Archives, Turquoise has always been intimately acquainted with research. Her father would often joke that her first words were “library” and “rune.” While other young dragons would have been out playing games with their friends and learning to fly, Turquoise could always be found with her little snout buried deep in the largest book she could find. Her favorite subject was history. In only a few short years, she was able to consume most of the history books that the entirety of the archives had to offer. But when all was said and done of course, she needed a new project. So she turned to genealogy.

Turquoise made it her mission to map out her family tree as far back as 100 generations. It was an ambitious project, to be sure, but she had always been an ambitious dragon. Day in and day out she studied, dedicating every free moment she had to the expansion of her project. Until one day, she found something perplexing.

As she poured over her various books and scrolls, she noticed that two pages had been surreptitiously glued together, as though no one were meant to see what lay between them. Ever so carefully, Turquoise worked the paper back and forth, careful not to tear anything. When she was finally able to peel the two pages apart, she was astounded by what she found. Only three generations in her family’s past was a hidden entry of a dragon who seemed to have disappeared at a young age, never to be seen again. She quickly added his name and image to her project, but she couldn’t shake the curiosity of wanting to know more about him. So she dug even deeper.

Her search led her to a dusty old journal stashed away among some of her grandmother’s old things and in its pages, she finally found her answers. He was a long-lost relative who was said to have been born with a strange marking on his body and that once he’d reached a certain age—the age that Turquoise was then—he’d seemed to never continue to age. So he’d disappeared into the night and never returned, fearful of what would happen to him if he ever let his condition be known to the wider community. Turquoise also found a letter that he’d written to his sister.

Should another of my kind be born in the years to come, tell them to travel to the Gladeveins and seek the council of Anzu, it read.

Turquoise was shocked. Not only because of the discovery she’d made...but also because she had been born with the same birthmark. Curiosity and anxiety shivered down her spine. Could she have been born with the same eternal youthfulness as her ancestor? There was only one way to find out.

Deciding to leave the familiarity of her home in the Starfall Isles, Turquoise trekked deep into the jungle where she sought this mysterious Anzu. When she found him, he was pleased to meet her. Anzu had, in fact, known her ancestor, who had ultimately decided not to remain under his care and had left to travel the world alone many years ago. Anzu was kind and offered Turquoise a place to stay or even simply to visit for support as she came to terms with her new reality. Immortality wasn’t easy to come to terms with at first. But now, Turquoise embraces it as a chance to learn and research a myriad of new things as the world changes around her. She has found her calling
