Biography
Tidedancer and Wavesong are a mated pair of water mages. It was an arranged marriage that turned into a deep friendship centered around their craft, and co-parenting their hatchlings. If left to their own devices, they would spend their lives devoted to the study of water magic, but they are obedient to their parents wishes for a large family. Despite their constraints, the pair continue to research, practice, and refine magic, celebrating together when they make discoveries.
Tidedancer's specialty is in determining which water types work best with certain spells, as well as determining why this happens. For example, he found that water collected from an ocean is far more useful in creating protection charms due to their natural salt content. Rainwater, he discovered, is far more efficacious for luck charms due to the capricious nature of the weather.
Wavesong specializes in experimentation with water gathering, storage, treatment, and it's impact on different spell types. She discovered that fresh water boiled in a glass container is less effective than when boiled in a brass cauldron. Sea water gathered at dusk is more effective in shadow magic than any kind of fresh water gathered at any time. Fresh water is best stored in wooden casks for nature magic but for fire magic, clay pots work best.
Tidedancer and Wavesong spend a great deal of time beachside, on and under the waves, sailing and fishing. They've met many colorful characters, including quite a few pirates. Their proficiency in water magic makes them an asset to privateers, so the pair sometimes accompany the pirates on their adventures. This gives them the chance to explore areas they could not reach alone, expanding their research. The pirates enjoy trying to get the serious mages to crack smiles, and sometimes they succeed. Notably, only one pirate has ever succeeded in making both Tidedancer and Wavesong howl with laughter when he asked them if Wavesong shat out diamonds instead of eggs.
Offspring of Tidedancer and Wavesong tend to go one of two ways with romance. They either have a tempered, practical view on choosing a mate, sometimes preferring to abstain completely, or they throw themselves headlong into passionate relationships, seeking something they never experienced at home but knew existed. Temperament wise, offspring tend to be methodical in their tasks and temperate in their treatment of others. Courtesy, even empathy, comes naturally to them, but not passion or vulnerability. They are usually content to allow others to take charge, even to their own detriment, as long as they are allowed to operate independently and on projects that they enjoy.
