 Subspecies Lore
The Magmaborne are led by Hyperion, eldest of their kind. These dragons are known for their ritualistic nature, indoctrinated at birth with a pilgrimage to bathe in the lava pools in each subregion of the Ashfall Wastes that ends in The Great Furnace. During their pilgrimage they are also imbued with the qualities of a warrior, strength of mind, willpower, spirit and body. They are known for being incredibly patient, but swift to brutal and effective action if the situation calls for it. It is said that each subsequent dip strengthens their natural armor, causing them to resemble the flow of lava, and the older they get, the stronger their armor becomes. They are proud warriors, one and all, ritualistic in their worship and their training. Each morning they wake, commence a ritual lava bath and cleansing, and flow through the motions of their individual fighting styles (though all tend to resemble each other, each will carry its own special flair to how they fight).

Subspecies Lore 2
There are those who leave the Ashfall Wastes to join the fights of other deities, but even these are said to make trips back to the places they were born in order to maintain their lustrous armor (it is rumored that those who do not eventually lose their fiery color and fade, though nobody has ever seen this happen). Sometimes, dragons of other elements will bring their young to be trained as Magmaborne, though these will never attain the same status as their fiereborn brethren, and will only be referred to as Magmaborne as an honorary title.

Funagata himself was invited to join the seekers by Barholme under the pretense of introducing him to a martial arts master (Lorus) who could help him with his training. Barholme's real reason for inviting him was to turn him into an Undertide who could swim in both water and lava. However, when Funagata was escorted to Ectomancer for transformation, Funagata refused to be transformed, as he would cease to be Magmaborn if he accepted. He also much preferred being a Skydancer, and overall was quite appalled by the question. Ectomancer apologized on behalf of Barholme, who occasionally still tries to trick Funagata into turning himself into an Undertide but to no avail. Funagata now trains under Lorus, advancing his skills in martial arts.

His time away from the Ashfall wastes has caused some of his natural armor to fade. The last time he returned to his birthplace and bathed in a lava pool that was too hot, and emerged with horrible burns. He still trains in the desert heat, but has yet to find the courage to bathe in lava as he once did.
