"Don't tempt me to prove you wrong."
"She could have been a leader in another life, instead of following orders."

____Look at what the warcat dragged on board. Who would be ill-minded enough to let you up here, anyway? You're about as safe on this ship as a mouse in a clearing. If you're not here to work, I'd advise you to leave. There are a few unsavory dragons that would love to rip you apart when no one's looking. While you're here, you might as well help me make rope. Take these vines and wind them tightly around each other. When you've reached an end, dip the end in the acid in front of you. It's not a true rope but will suffice in emergencies.
____My name is Arkken. I hail from the land of fire and fight and, with two other sailors here, was gifted to the captain. Water isn't an easy element to get used to when you've been raised among ashes and inferno but after a few moons, I've gotten used to it. I even managed to steal these wraps and necklace.

____Arkken was raised in her birth flight though not in her birth clan. She was sold shortly after hatching to the wealthy Soot and Ash clan. Even at a young age, the hatchling was quiet and when she played with other hatchlings, it was her taking charge of them when leadership was involved.
Her love for many of the clan was short lived when they were attacked by harpies during their stay in the Emberglow Hearth. Many lives were lost and most of the hatchlings had been carried off. When the sun had risen the next day, grief and anger was all that resided in the remaining dragons as they tended to their fallen. Arkken mourned but during the sleepless nights to follow it wasn't sorrow she felt but a growing hatred. She spent her time watching the skies instead of playing with other hatchlings.
____When the time came to choose what she wanted to learn, she asked to learn how to fight harpies and defend the clan. Instead of placing her where she wanted, the reigning patriarch, Maligdah sent her away to train along with two younger lightning dragons.
By the time they returned, the clan had been granted a home at the base of the mountain beside the Blacksand Annex. Their return marked the beginning of a new story for the Soot and Ash clan. The clan itself was marked as reclusive and unwelcoming and dragons were urged to steer clear of its territory.

____Arkken along with her newfound allies were sent on "missions" which involved many shady acts. They went through many different names and appearances so no dragon could ever truly place their face in a clan or location.
When dragons arrived at the clan during a border patrol, Arkken took charge of leading them to the matriarch and patriarch of the clan while her lightning allies followed. The patriarch sent the three of them with the rogue dragons in an agreement to escort them to the border between the Ashfall Waste and the Windswept Plateau.
During their journey, the group was attacked by harpies. Arkken led the fight into the fray and left with more blood on her claws than the rest of them though it would be a sleepless night for the wildclaw.
When they reached the border, Arkken handed over a message the patriarch had written, revealing his knowledge of the dragons' true origins and gifted Arkken and her two allies to the dragons which the three readily agreed with. Once again, they shed their skins and their former titles in exchange for their present names: Arkken, Zap, and Shadescreech.
____When they reached the auction house, Zap and Shadescreech found other ways to occupy their time. Arkken remained with the leader of the group, captain Firefeather to help locate dragons who could build the ship and assess those who wanted to join them.
After they set sail, Arkken was one of the slower dragons to adapt to the constantly adjusting weather. She learned quickly how to command the ship with rope and sail but suffered and continues to suffer from a secret that only Zap and Shadescreech are aware of: A terrible fear of water.
When Captain Firefeather was forced to replace Alibi, she chose Arkken. The wildclaw has adapted well to the life of first mate.
Arkken was among several who fought and/or tried to escape during the mutiny against Firefeather. Loyal to the captain, she fought for her and sustained a deep gouge on her shoulder during the battle at sea. Her fate remains unknown at this time.

Arkken found herself one day in possession of a dragon. How did it come down to this? How could she have been let go? But it was true as the colours on her scales. A pearlcatcher with a bag of treasure and another dragon with a chain around his neck in her claws spoke to the Captain, and after a good solid look at the dragons lined up before her, she chose Arkken, Sunset, and Hunter to go with her. With the exception of Sunset, the clothes on their backs, possessions, and titles were stripped from them and they were motioned to follow the chocolate pearlcatcher who introduced herself as Hanji.
"You'll be fine. Where I come from, you'll fit right in."
Arkken wasn't sure. She was used to being in command, and yet here she was...Sold like a common soldier and carted off to who knows where. She couldn't help feel the betrayal in her heart. The Captain knew what she was doing, and perhaps it really was for the best, but it still hurt. With a final glance behind her and a sideways look at Sunset, she spread her wings and took off into the air, following Hanji. They were flanked by four other dragons that looked very similar to the pearlcatcher, and soon they were all headed towards the heart of the Scarred Wasteland. She couldn't help but enjoy the flight...It was relaxing. The dragons that flanked her gave no impression of contempt. In fact, the aura she got from them was rather friendly. She turned to the Wildclaw that flew beside her.
"Where are we headed...?"
His cyan eyes slid slowly towards her, but that was it. She recoiled a little bit. Had she been wrong...?
"Ignore him, he's always like that."
She turned her head the other way. An imperial was on the other side of her. A fellow Fire Ancestor.
"Sorry?"
"He's always grumpy, don't ask Levi for any help. Sorry about him. But you asked where we were going...? We're headed for our home!"
"Which is...?"
"It's near the Wyrmwound. Very near. We camp right beside it, actually. It's unsafe, but it's very rewarding. We don't get attacked and it keeps some of our scientists at bay."
The nocturne that was flying behind them snorted and rolled her eyes. Arkken had the feeling that the glances shot towards the Pearlcatcher leading them had more meaning than intended.
"Oh, ok."
She stared ahead, the biting betrayal still stinging. Why would the Captain sell her off...? She glanced behind her, feigning that she was checking her wings. Sunset looked lost in thought, and Hunter just deadpanned as normal.
"Hey."
The imperial had a soft look in her eyes.
"It'll be ok. Really. Lightning is excited to meet you and your comrades. Hunter used to be in our clan until he disappeared. We planned on trading away our own for him to return home, but we were offered you and Sunsets services instead. But we're not like that...Really. This all sounds sketchy and weird, but we're just trying to give you a home. You'll be very welcomed here."
Arkken wasn't sure. She knew the Imperial was trying her best to comfort her, but she was still crushed. Everything was crashing down...Hopefully the Imperial's words rang true.
The pearlcatcher let out a chirp and Arkken noticed they had come upon a settlement beside the Wyrmwound. The formation started to descend, and soon she found her feet back on solid ground. They were in a clearing. She noticed that many dragons had come out to the clearing, as if they had been waiting for them to come. She lifted her head and scanned the area.
Well...maybe this wasn't so bad..
A crimson Nocturne with a lion's headdress approached the party, extending a claw in welcome. There was no hostility in her eyes, and she smiled warmly.
"Welcome to the Lighthouse Clan, My name is Lightning. I am the clan Alpha. We've been expecting you."
The two shook hands and Lightning gave her a mask and a den to call her own.
"If you need anything, ask myself or anyone in the clan. We will help you be as comfortable as possible! When you're ready, you can feel free to ask about opportunities within the clan if you'd like a position."
She settled down into the nest that had been made for her and yawned before looking around.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.
Her eyes slowly closed as she curled up.
Maybe.
