Undertides of the Light element are often scholars that dive deep into knowledge most heretical. They study the flaws in the deities - their past and current mistakes. Naturally, they end up shunned by the more devoted dragons, sometimes persecuted out of their homes. Most who live in the Sunbeam Ruins reside near the Hewn City, in the waterways. However, with the rampaging Emperor around, that residence is particularly dangerous.
Scryer was born in the Hewn City, but moved away as soon as he could. He was fascinated with dangerous beings, however, but preferred to study them from afar. He longs most of all to see what the Gaolers are hiding.
That is where he met the clan - as they determined that Peacekeeper’s Charge was being held by the Gaolers, Scryer was right along with them in being thrown out. They were after the same thing, he determined, so he decided to stay with them.
