Ofidian grabbed his papers from across his desk obsessively. Once he spotted the right
page, he grabbed at it with his talons and pushed it up to his opaque goggles. To his left, a noxious cauldron full of charred bones and melted metals let off a strange smoke. Coughing as he ran in, Flicker eagerly tossed a loose sack of a dug up pearlcatcher's grave onto the imperial's desk and looked straight up at the imperial, waiting for praise. Ofidian quickly grabbed a shimmery vial in front of him without looking and poured it into the cauldron. A toxic wisp hit Flicker straight in the face.
"*cough* Hey! Watch out! You keep doing that and- and-" he said, as he flapped his wings and jumped around.
Ofidian searched for a pouch of coins in his bags. After fishing it out, he dropped down without a glance at him and started writing more notes. The nocturne instantly caught it out of the air and started imagining his next dinner... Before he left, he tilted his head and looked into the boiling pot. His eyes widened, but before he could see anything, his eyes started burning. With a yelp, he scampered away, cursing the imperial every few stones he stepped on.

The room was now fogged up with smoke. No matter. Drawing open Flicker's sack, he
spotted a round crystal with a snow-like sheen. He idly tossed the round pearl-like object between his talons... This was the biggest one he'd seen - it filled up his entire palm and more. And the nocturne had sold it for 15 gems.
