Firestarter

It's cold in the operating room.
You look up at the doctor. "Are you sure you want to go through with this? The chances of surviving are very slim-"
"I'm sure," You say with confidence. "I have to do it... for Shinji." Pictures of Shinji stream into your mind. brown hair, black eyes smiling in the sun, but then... "I'm sorry, Y/N, I can't do this... your legs are just too small." Your eyes fill with tears. He can't see. He isn't looking at you.
You blink the tears out of your eyes and bring yourself back to the present. That's why you're doing this. For Shinji. You need to have this leg-lengthining operation for him. It doesn't matter if you die, if Shinji doesn't love you it isn't worth living. You think of the hate you saw in his eyes when you confessed. He let you down easy but his eyes said so much more. He could never love me. Not like this.
You look back up to the doctor "I'm ready." She nods. "Alright count backwards from one hundred.."



The lights are bright. Where are you? You aren't in your room. Where-
"You're finally awake" A womans voice. Oh, that's right. The surgery. But if you're awake now, that must mean-
"The surgery was sucessful?" Your voice is hoarse.
"Yes," The doctor smiled. "And, you have a visitor..."
She stepped aside and standing there was
"Shinji!" You smile, all of your tiredness forgotten. Your smile fades as you notice somethings off
"But... why are you so short?"
He smiled, but it was tinged with sadness.
"Who do you think gave you the legs?"
