sometimes, violence finds those that do not deserve it.

kailani's parents are mercenaries, bloody ones, the kind that both hide and hunt, and they bore her into the burrick, where sellswords and thieves make their homes. and though all those dragons love every child that is hatched in their heated backrooms, the burrick is no place for a child.

there is violence in the way personalities clash, in the trophies brought home by the mercs - even the shadowy thieves, with the knives hidden so they did not have to be left at the door. there isn't much more for kailani to learn.

and though she herself grew up reserved and quiet, her parents did as they thought was best and taught her to fight, to be big and intimidating, and though she was grew meters and meters longer than her siblings, she never felt anything but small.

the burrick spins to another part of the boneyard with every chime of its bell. and when it's time for kailani to leave, she sits outside the ratty wooden door, and lets the kick of its magic propel her into a new life.

she thought it would be different.

life in sorineth is hard. it is so hard to be soft. and when you are bred of violence, it is so easy to swing your claws down on those that wish to hurt you. and that is what kailani did. the boneyard wept under her claws.

she yearns for different. and she will wander until she gets it.
