It took some testing for the other researchers to find out, but Swilurie (Swy-luh-ree) has a genetic mutation allowing her to change the radioactivity of her physical body, magic, or both. Instead of being taken care of Hederin and Theavaeth as parentless hatchlings in Oovalia typically are, Swilurie had to be taken care of by the researchers, who wore protective gear when interacting with her until she was old enough to gain control of her powers. Obsidian, with the help of Skenefra, eventually was able to help teach Swilurie how to do this, and by the time she was a late teenager, Swilurie was able to control the radioactivity.

Now, Swilurie rarely uses her powers outside of an experiment or the battlefield (given that she won’t hurt any teammates doing so). Having watched the researchers do research and perform experiments throughout her childhood, she was inspired to be a scientist herself. Since her powers give her immunity to radiation as well, she is able to research it without worrying about her own safety. That said, she still wears some protective gear and is very careful when using her powers. She reminds anyone who comes near her during an experiment or wants to help her that they need to wear the proper gear before doing so.
