THE TALE

Born in a tangle of shadows, the earliest memory of this hatchling is that of his sole and steadfast companion, a gentle, if mischievous Tendril with its bright little eyes, peering up from the nest they both share.

There are no siblings here. No remainders of the egg he surely hatched from, nor marks left by parents or kin. Only brambles, and the mesmerizing dance of dust particles in the play of shadow and light.
Someone is coming. The hatchling knows this, as plain as forecasting the weather, and is unafraid. It is just fact. The dancing of dust particles grows wilder as earth is disturbed, a breeze blowing. Someone is coming. At last.
