I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

“I met a traveller from an antique land,

And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,

My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Ozymandias grew up with his sister Emera and their parents in a kingdom surrounded by mountains and the desert. He was an ordinary farm boy, not unlike the other kids in his neighborhood, but he always felt he could have been more. That constant thought caught up with him and clung to him like a tumor or a putrid stench as a constant reminder of his intense self-doubt. He developed an obsession over the reason why he and his friends, who had labored so hard, were consigned to a life of failure and menial labor work. His desired wish came true one day when he received a letter confirming his acceptance to study magic. He of course accepted the letter in response to it, simply hoping to meet his hopes and the King and possibly learn the answer to his mental problems.
“I could meet the King, king, is that even possible? Would I really believe that?”
Ozymandias worked day and night to achieve this goal because he believed that if the King knew he was one of the best mages and magic wielders in the kingdom, the King would have more sympathy for those below him. Then, on one fateful night, his wishes were granted and he was made the King's own king's personal Mage, whom the King would employ to exact revenge and wreak vengeance on those beneath him as he saw fit. It was a challenging task to see all those people suffer, which perhaps added to his anxiety, fear and doubt about everything he has ever worked for and believed in. Why couldn't he feel nothing but sorrow for those who were harmed? If the wealthy, rich and powerful felt okay about it, would he gradually start to resemble them one day? He had no idea. Though it was a frightening idea at first, he progressively grew to like seeing those who were at his mercy pleading and wailing while he tossed them away with a smile.
Over time, his sister started to worry since Ozymandias had grown bogged down in his work and studies, hidden away from the wandering eyes of the population and even the King, and only responded with ramblings and nonsense. He started saying that he could "free the folk of the town," but how could he assist if he was mentally imprisoned? Before deciding to try his luck on the Iron throne, Ozymandias spent some time strategizing, learning, and acquiring power. He believed he had earned the right to deemed the King, whom he deemed to be inefficient and incompetent, but this was untrue.
No one with intellectual instability could be king, even if Ozymandias still had a head, and he had forgotten that rulers rule more successfully when they anticipate every issue without resorting to force.
He, who once was a young man who once merely wanted to support his family during his formative years transformed into a person who preferred nothing more than power and control over other neighboring kingdoms and villages in order to "purify" and "help" them of something that had unintentionally caused them greater harm, but instead he had become the only thing that had caused them greater suffering than before.
During the months when this was all going on, his own sister had started to turn against him. A rebellion to topple the "Mad King" and sentence him to a life of slowly losing the respect of others, seeing the people around him forget about him, and become imprisoned in a circle of regret and unhappiness for the rest of his life as retribution for all his wrongdoings over the years. The populace screamed rubbish about how much history would remember this day as the revolt gathered outside the castle walls, killing and arresting anybody who had dutifully served the Mad King before locating him, hiding, and disturbed by everything that had transpired.
Losing his crown was a difficult problem to comprehend for the young man, who declared that he was still king of their world and that everyone who heard him would know of it by the numerous areas he had "healed" and "conquered."
The opportunity for his sister to rule the kingdom was presented to her, but she turned it down. Why would she want the throne if power has masked her once-generous and diligent brother? She had ordered for everything in the Kingdom to be torn down while keeping it a secret from her brother. She believed that the Kingdom was cursed and that anyone who would want this crown and kingdom would be doomed to failure and lunacy. Emera occasionally made up stories about how much was spoken about her brother and what he had done in order to make him happy when she went to visit him in jail. Although it was depressing, it was for the best for them both. For him to not know and spend the rest of his life pondering and wondering while she knows and tries to fix it.
Years have passed, and although everything has been destroyed, you might still be able to discover his antique statue in the center of a desolate country, murmuring to no one about his greatest triumphs that he was lost to him unknowingly as he is still sitting in his jail to this very day, sadly, alone with his thoughts.
