Bathypelagic Giants

Surrounded by the deep blue void of the ocean, where one can no longer see the bottom nor the surface, there is little shelter for any creature floating alone. Isolating in its vastness, survival in its strange and hostile enormity can be difficult and overwhelming. So for the smallest and loneliest of creatures, the protection of a Bathypelagic Giant is a blessing. These massive dragons cruise the currents between the last inches of sunlight peering down from the surface and the inky darkness of the abyss below, accompanied by their large communities of critters. Sharks and fish follow in the wake of their wings, jellyfish knotted in their manes, and all manner of shrimps clinging to their horns as they follow the currents. Much like their seafloor counterparts, these Giants lead their colonies through the dark, following the migration of creatures that rise up from the depths after the sun sets to feed at the surface, so despite their relative elevation, these Whalefalls still spend most of their lives rarely seeing the sunlight, and even more rarely happening across another dragon. But every once in a while, far out into the sea, you may see the telltale glowing ghostly markings glide just underneath the surface on a moonlit night, closely guarding their communes, following the rise of creatures from the deep.
