Daydream
wanderer

Daydream was the only one of her siblings who didn't leave home immediately when they no longer needed looking after. She was nervous. Though she had wind in her blood, it's a big world out there. At her mother's prodding, she tried to "make herself useful" and study with the clan's scholars, but they found her to be a difficult student, and nicknamed her Daydream. It stuck, for good reason. For a while, she tried to help the other fae spin amber for nests, but they always seemed to come out clumsy and lopsided. Unsure of what she really wanted to do, Daydream grew sick of her mother's complaints and her father's doting. She finally set off, hoping to make something of herself and learn a thing or two.

And now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

When Daydream landed in the Focal Point of Arcane territory, she came across Vixen's Clan. She realized very soon there weren't many Faes, which actually made her relax, since she didn't want to let more Faes down. The clan warmly welcomed her but also seemed very erratic and kept themselves busy. This was also nice, since they didn't seem to expect anything from her. She could relax here. She eventually met one of the only Faes that resided in the clan, Terra. Terra was the teacher of the clan and had taught all hatchlings born in the lair many skills and knowledge. Daydream asked her if she could help her make proper Fae nests, and Terra vigorously nodded. She was firm and instructive but not mean. Eventually, Daydream could spin a slightly better nest though it was nowhere near perfect. But she was proud of her improvement, and Terra was proud of her. That was enough. She stayed with the clan for a little while longer then decided to move on.

Daydream traveled for a while, but eventually found her way back to the Starfall Isles. She is uncertain of what brought her back to the volatile Focal Point. Curiosity, fascination with the Arcane energies raining from the sky, and perhaps a wish to see Terra again. Unfortunately, she couldn't quite remember where Terra's clan resided, and ended up staying with clan Crystal Skies instead. She became a rather good friend with Kanerva, a quite dashing male Fae that was as beautiful as he was deadly. Kanerva had become a battle mage early on in his life, and Daydream was curious of what his life was like. In the end she decided that becoming a battle mage was not something she wanted to do, but Kanerva did not fault her for that. She stayed with him for a while longer, before she set out for new adventures.

It wasn't that she wanted to end up here...It was rather an accident, actually. The Scarred Wasteland was enough to make her wrinkle her nose, even though she was high above it. The very land below her looked like it was alive and pulsing with growths, but she knew better than to think that. Shattered Serpents and the wild dragons that occupied the land were numerous. But while looking down, she failed to remember that above was just as dangerous...Especially for such a tiny creature like her. A terrifying creature slammed into her, knocking her off balance and sending her spiraling down towards the plaguelands. As she struggled to right herself, she caught a glimpse of her attacker. An alien-like creature diving towards her at breakneck speed. She wasn't sure what this thing was...It looked like a dragon, but it was so covered in deformities and accessories she wasn't sure if it actually was. It seized her in its fangs and dragged her down with it, ignoring her struggles to free herself. She happened to look down, and saw another dragon - yes, this time she KNEW it was a dragon - rocketing up towards them at an impressive speed. She let out a screech and suddenly Daydream was falling as the dragon and whatever had snatched her started to battle midair. She crashed to the ground...or rather, onto a table near the ground. Coughing and spluttering, she tried her best to free herself from the wires and electrical mess she'd landed in, but a soothing voice stopped her, alongside a gentle paw on her shoulder.

"There, there, little one, don't struggle. You've made a mess of my model, you'll be seriously injured if you don't let me free you."

Daydream stopped and looked up into the eyes of a rather large imperial. She held her wrench in her mouth to free up her other paw and gently removed all the wires and pieces of metal that pinned the quivering fae down. Once she was free, she huddled into a ball and looked around.

"Where am I? Who are you? Where's that thing that attacked...? What was that?"

"Shh, it's ok, you're safe now." The imperial said with a soft voice. "It will be ok. Lightning has put Pyralspite back in her place."

They looked around in time to see the Nocturne let out an angry hiss as the weird creature slunk away.

"What was that?"

"That was Pyralspite. Something happened to her ages ago, and she's not quite right. It's sad, really..."

The imperial shook her head and Shoved the scrap mess off the table while putting her wrench away.

"I'm sorry for messing up your project..."

"Oh, mercy no, don't be sorry. I'm just glad you weren't hurt by Pyral. My name is Ashes, by the way. Who would you be?"

"They call me Daydream."

"It's nice to meet you."

Daydream and Ashes spent a little more time together, and each liked the others company. After rebuilding and fixing up the project she had been working on, Ashes bid Daydream farewell, as the fae had decided her debt had been repaid and she couldn't take the strange presence of Pyralspite anymore. Lightning accompanied her to the border of the Plaguelands to ensure her safety out of the land, but who knew what lay next.

Ramen had a strange charm about him - Daydream couldn't say for sure what it was, but when she met him in Light flight, she couldn't seem to get him out of her mind.

The obsession was both unwelcome and unsettling, she told herself she wouldn't see him - and the next thing she knew, she was sitting at a table with him, sharing a meal. Tired from all the food they'd eaten, they decided to sleep at the nearby inn - in separate rooms, of course.

He stole something from her that night. It was subtle, while he thought she were sleeping - but she was awake. She saw him as he chanted to himself, saw him as a glimmering, mist like energy sprung from her own chest and gathered between his claws, a pure, white light which he shaped into a single, brilliant egg.

The next morning he was gone, leaving her with nothing but disturbing memories. Perhaps it had all been a weird dream? Albeit a very long one... ah, better leave Light flight and their weird energies.

Staring off as she flew, Daydream eventually ended up in the Windswept Plateau once more. She recognized which direction her home lair was, and avoided it. Instead she ended up in a clan that called themselves The Spectrum. This entire lair was led by a family of Fae dragons, the leader, Coralia, was very sweet and she cared for her very well during her stay. There weren't a lot of Fae dragons in this lair, so Daydream felt small. She was interested how Coralia led the clan of larger dragons without being pushed around.

Curious, Daydream shadowed Coralia to learn about her leadership skills. She didn't want to learn to bully other dragons around, she just thought it might come in handy one day. Daydream stayed in The Spectrum for almost a year before she felt she had soaked up enough information to move onto her next adventure. She was so busy learning from Coralia and her family, that almost seemed to be "royal" within the clan, that she didn't even think to settle down with someone. She felt this was alright, the memories from past experiences still haunted her some nights to keep her mind away from that.

She thanked everyone for their help, especially the Fae leader and the dragons who ran the library full of scrolls. She learned so much from the dragons here, she hopes she'll come back someday. But for now, she's ready to move on, stretch her wings, and try new things!

Remaining in the Windswept Plateau, she flew around aimlessly, looking for some other Wind clan to stay in. But there were none around, so she landed on a grassy plain for she was quite hungry.
Just as she finished her meal and was ready to move on, she felt someone staring at her. And so it was; not far from her stood a peculiar, if not slightly menacing looking dragon, holding a pouch in one of his hands and staring at her intently. Daydream didn't really feel comfortable around him, especially not with all those bird skulls he wore; they made a frightening rattling sound in the blowing wind. She jumped in the air and spread her wings, but his voice stopped her in her tracks.

"Your magicksss... It's strongsss..." What a peculiar way of speaking, she thought. Also, what "magicks?" She had none. She never learned any magic. Still, she was too uncomfortable to speak up or correct him, for he was much bigger and fairly intimidating in her eyes.

"It seeps outsss... Learns to use itsss or itsss becomes unstable...", he hissed while slowly approaching the little Fae.
Seeping out? Her magic? How? She never did anything with it, how can it "seep out?", is what she thought.
His words confused her, and she forgot to pay close attention to him. By the time she noticed how close he came to her, it was already too late, for he placed a small stone collar around her neck. The loud snap when the stone lock closed in itself made her twitch and flutter away to create some distance, but upon trying to remove it, she found out she couldn't. It was heavy, but not so much it would constrain her.

Stone Collar

"What did you do to me?", she cried out. "Take this off!"
But the strange Coatl's eyes simply blinked at her behind the bird skull he wore.
"When you breaksss the seal, that momentsss you use your magicksss well... Now goesss, little Fae. Be what you are meantsss to be."
"I am what I am meant to be, I'm a Fae!", she cried out more. But the strange one stood there, unmoving, unbothered by her panicking cries.
"Goesss, Fae. Learn." Again, that hissing voice...

Daydream cried out in frustration and flew up and away, as far away from this strange, evil dragon as she could.

Trying to get far away from the strange dragon she met, Daydream didn't care in which way she were flying. Before she noticed, she was in the Frigid Floes. Freezing and still upset.
While she was thinking about what happened earlier, a massive dragon approached her. "What could drive a little fae all alone out here?" Daydream told him about how she tried to get away form the menacing dragon and that she now was lost. Fortunately the Guardian had always been compassionate with other dragons, so he brought her to his clan.
There, she was introduced to the leader of the clan, a friendly Tundra named Regis. He offered her a warm place to stay and offered her to teach her about magic being the clans healer and ice mage. Daydream gladly accepted.

During the following weeks, she befriended Brolach, the big Guardian who found her in the first place. Being one of the main fighters, he often came back injured after hours of fighting for food. Regis then healed him. Daydream would always join them, trying to understand the heeling magic Regis was teaching her. But she couldn't grasp the concept and as patient as Regis was, she felt bad that all his efforts seemed to be for nothing.
But one day Regis tried another approach: "Little fae, I've been thinking about your magic. You told me about your encounter and I'm thinking that I now understand what he meant. You have a lot of potential, but not the confidence to use it. But you are smart and even though you are not able to use your own magic yet, I am sure that you understand how it works. And I would have been happy to give you a home in our clan, but it seems that you need to see more of the world first."

So she said goodbye again, knowing that she had found a place she could always come back to, if she wanted. Brolach and Regis accompanied her to the borders of the Icewarden's domain.
Daydream stretched her wings and flew up again, following the call of a new adventure.

Daydream flew east over the warm Fire territory, riding the air currents leisurely until she touched down on the east side of the Lightning domain. She noticed she wasn’t alone among the desert plants - a nocturne was crouched in a pale bush. Suddenly he pounced, but tripped on a root and fell flat on his face. A mysterious hopping mouse darted out from the shrub he had been targeting, and Daydream noticed that it held a bunch of red feathers in its paws.

The nocturne was struggling, so Daydream helped him up and began washing the scratches on his face, using the methods she learned in the ice floats.

“Thanks for that. Wow, embarassing. Way to go me.” the nocturne scolded himself half jokingly. “My name’s Gamble. You look like you’re a traveller, need a place to stay?”

Gamble guided her back to his lair, which was a massive collection of tents open to those who need a place to rest their heads. He told her that the red feathers the mouse had been holding were worth a lot of money at the auctions, and that if he got them he'd be one step closer to his dream of buying a ship. He asked if she was willing to help him.

"I-I guess, I'm not sure how I can be of any help though. I'm not very good at hunting and all those sort of things."

"Don't worry, with your colours you'll blend right in with the bush. I'll chase it towards you. When it gets close just grab it."

They were able to track down the same mouse. Everything went as planned until Daydream darted out to catch it. It was a lot fiestier that she expected, but she was able to take the feathers. Gamble rejoiced and thanked her energetically for helping him. He gave her a lovely, thick coat as a thank-you gift. The two friends parted ways cheerfully several days later, waving at each other until the ever present storm clouds hid them from view.

Daydream left the land of the Bossman, and headed back towards the Ashfall Wastes. The season is a little chilled for her tastes, despite her new Brown Wooly Coat. The land of Fire seemed the perfect place to take a break and spend some of the coldest months. Clan Ksayla was a welcoming lair at the base of the Great Furnace. The lair is a vast network of caves and "neighborhoods," with most breeds self-selecting to live together. The Fae population is minute, but Daydream meets up with the Arcane Ambassador, Crash. And he offers her some same in the nest he and his mate built in the biggest tree in the in-cavern garden. This will do, for now. Soon, however, she grew weary of this lair. There were so few of her own their and conversing with other breeds was rather tiresome. It was time to move on.
