Nora

The ruthless, bloodthirsty pirate captain Nora was not always this way. Long ago, when she was just a wee lass, her fathers were murdered in front of her. They had been retired pirate lords, having set their swords and sails to rest many moons ago. But the ocean remembers and they could not hide from their past.

When a crew they had once wronged and failed to fully finish off caught Nora's fathers, no quarter was offered and they were swiftly killed. The crew found young Nora cowering in the corner of her room. Their thirst for revenge had been satiated. Killing the child was not on their itinerary. So, they adopted Nora.

With an early start to her sailing education, she excelled in combat and ocean navigation. As she grew and rose in the ranks, the roles of the ship changed and the very dragon who killed her fathers became captain one day. Nora had been waiting silently for an opportunity. She was the best fighter, the best sailor, the best strategist, and very very cunning. The new captain would be easy to defeat, Nora decided. A simple duel to decide. The winner would be captain and show a sign of strength to the rest of the crew. The loser... well...

Nora ambushed the captain with the proposal in front of her crew, forcing her hand into acceptance. Deck cleared, swords drawn, dragons ready, they fought.

Nora won. But she didn't slit her throat out of spite, to avenge her fallen fathers. She did it to earn her place as captain.

After all, that's the way of the sea.
