Biography

Leafy Gladeboughs
WIP
Some dragons are exalted into service of the Gladekeeper, and some are chosen.

Her choices aren't always clear or agreed upon, and the whole process remains a mystery up until the moment that an unsuspecting dragon is called to the forest.

It comes as an intense case of wanderlust with a compass that only points north. Some dragons have an easier time leaving their living situation than others. Old dragons, young dragons, and anyone in-between can be called, from the Icefields to the Wastelands.

While a long trip through Sornieth may be difficult, these dragons will find the later half of their trek relatively easy. The forest, even the deepest parts feel welcoming and neutral. They will always find water, and no wildlife interferes with their journey.

Once they are found wandering the proximity of the Grove, they are taken in and bonded to their First Tree. In the stories, these trees that reside in the Grove are the first of their kind. It's hard to prove, but whatever they are, they're massive.

Now, their life force is tied to this tree and the tree is tied to them. This bond between flora and beast strengthen both the dragon and the vitality of the species. The dragon, bound in service to the forest receives a myriad of benefits.

- The dragon is hyper-aware of ongoings in their surrounding forest, especially in the Labyrinth. This makes the dryads impossible to sneak up on when in a forest, unless coming from above. The presence of plague-like entities is especially pronounced and noticable.

- The dragon can use any array of flora for attack and defense. A dryad will never be defenseless in the forest. With just touch they can invigorate rapid growth of plants. This works well for restraint, defense, and even occasionally piercing power.

- The dragon receives longevity. Once a dragon is bonded to a tree, much of their aging freezes. They are not immortal, but they are quite close to it. They age only as fast as their bonded tree does - and who knows how long those have been around.

- The woods provide healing. As long as they are in contact with the forest, the dryads can mend wounds to any dragon and experience much faster natural healing in the Labyrinth.

But just as much as they are given, they risk much more.

- Life force slowly diminishes outside the forest. While this isn't necessarily true for younger dragons, those who have outlived their natural lifespan will feel it if they remain out of the Labyrinth for too long.

- They are connected to the Grove - which is connected to everyone else. If one dragon is inflicted with sickness, so will their tree. If it is a particularly transmittable kind, the whole Grove may become ill.

-It's hard to heal outside the forest. If they find a patch of woods, another dryad can heal them as they would in the Labyrinth but outside of that, especially for the older dragons, they heal at a snail's pace.

Leafy Gladeboughs

A lone Wildclaw walks through deep forest.

They have traveled far to get here, but in this moment seem...aimless. At least as aimless as one can be in the densest part of the Wilds.

They are only slightly startled by the large head of an Imperial that suddenly makes itself seen through the branches, and the beast seems not at all surprised to see the lone Wildclaw. He greets the Wildclaw, and asks what brings them to this part of the woods, or if he's just passing through. The Imperial seems somewhat cautious - after all, there aren't a whole lot of good reasons to be wandering through the Wilds.

The Wildclaw takes in the druid-like Imperial, but finds himself unable to respond. A series of complex emotion flash across their face - confusion, exhaustion, exasperation, and finally lands on frustration. The Wildclaw grits their teeth, looking up at the Imperial and trying to hide their desperation.

"What am I doing here?"

The Imperial smiles softly at him, with an expression similarly as complex. Somewhere between relief, friendliness, and pity.

You are taken through a particularly dense part of forest. Despite this, the path does look well-trodden. The ground begins to tilt down and obscured behind a curtain of vines is the entrance to a large tunnel.

The tunnel is short, but also well-trodden. The tunnel tilts up, where sun is flooding in from the other entrance. On this side there are stone stairs that ascend back up to ground level.

Inside is an lush, floral grove. The bases of massive trees are spaced out in every direction. A small stream comes down from the ring of stone hills and flows through, depositing into a glimmering pond in the center.

It seems to expand endlessly, but it is closed in a stone ring of hills that's hard to make out from the outside. The trees of the Grove mostly obscure these hills from above.
