The lair's head alchemist is an eccentric sort, seemingly always rattling on about his latest experiment or idea to anybody or anything that would listen. While thinking aloud is far from the strangest thing any the researchers have done, many are still unsettled by Nereid's broken ideas. Rumors have gone around the halls about how he's secretly importing diseases from his homeland, stealing other dragons' familiars for his cauldron, and oddly, a soufflé recipe he's been dying to try recently.

Most researchers tend to give Nereid a wide berth, and that suits him just fine. Despite his questionable methods, the fact remains that Nereid is a brilliant alchemist, and is one of the most knowledgeable dragons in the lair besides maybe Affogato. He has been pestered by many young dragons in his lifetime, often asking for inane trinkets and scrolls with no regard for learning how. If threatening to steal their familiars as components keeps them quiet, he'll gladly repeat the same old joke until they get the picture. Besides, it's rather delightful to be the "crazy old man" of the castle.

The only dragon to not follow this trend lately has been his apprentice, Integrity. Nereid once served as his doctor when Integrity was a sickly hatching, and quickly took an interest to the child's natural intelligence. Though Nereid has since found a prescription that helps Integrity live a regular life, Integrity still spends most of his time in Nereid's lab as an assistant. Nereid is still unused to his company, but figures he can stick around if he so wants.
