Embodying the duality of nurturing and fierce, Kahina protects a select circle of dear ones within her clan, showing neutrality at best to other beings. She dotes on Selen, her antelope, more than any other. Her hatchlings receive her protection only until they are old enough to fight for themselves, though if they are lucky, Kahina may continue to contribute to their spiritual growth.

She used to take a mate but soon grew tired of the practice. While she loved the ability to rear her own bloodchildren, she found it exhausting to learn the customs of wooing and placating a partner long enough to nest with them. After one too many bouts of irritation expressed between she and her mate, they decided no longer to lay together. Now, she is free to hoist her irritation onto eggbearers who aren't being cautious enough. While this causes exasperation for her clanmates, they are grateful for Kahina's consistent willingness to nurture and guard any fledglings until they have grown too old to be babied.

When not rearing a nest, she spends time reading over what volumes she's collected. Sometimes her reading sessions occupy her for days, during which time Selen is the only being she'll acknowledge. Others are liable to be bitten. Sometimes she explains her aloof nature to herself by imagining that the brains who raised her influenced her to crave distance and learning above socialization; she's had to learn nurturance on her own time since then, and even after several hatches it is a struggle.

Her spellbound tome and ensorcelled volume are the banes of her existence. She'd asked Aenne to enchant a pair of encyclopedias for her to expand their knowledge. However, the daft witch gave the books too much knowledge, for now they know how to evade handling, too. The ensorcelled volume, at least, seemed to take to Ko. As far as she's concerned, he can have the book if he's foolish enough to enjoy its presence. The spellbound tome, however, seems determined to stay within the confines of her library.
