NAME's presence within the clan remains a mystery. One day he was simply there and he doesn't seem to have any intention of leaving. While he seems to be peaceful and prefer to stay on his own there's an unavoidable sense of unease around NAME, a weight in the air around him that makes breathing uncomfortable.

"I had credited my hesitation to the seemingly baseless rumors of the general public and ignored it - that had been a mistake. He knew, I think, the look in his eyes was pitying but I couldn't feel ashamed with the desperation I suddenly felt when in speaking distance. There was a heaviness closing in on me and it became difficult to breathe. That man did nothing but watch passively as I fled as if this was normal for him. It probably was."

It is intriguing how despite the more than a millennium between then and now, despite how events much more recent have begun to fade, he can still recall that first moment with such clarity. There have been a great many since and a great many more will still come to pass, but that first moment is the only one stands out.

He had been so young then, two decades making up the entirety of his life when now the same time meant very little. It had been so difficult to get any time to himself but he'd finally been able to escape the watchful eyes and carve out a small moment for himself in the quiet of a new dawn, just as the night was crumbling away. The trees around him were still, the wildlife quiet, and for a moment it felt like this was all there was. He wasn't anyone, he had no responsibilities, no duty to anyone, and for a moment maybe that was all true. As true as anything can be when there's no one around to dispute it.

But then there was no serenity. He felt like a thousand eyes were watching him, so suddenly that he'd felt the stabbing pain in his neck from turning around too suddenly. There was nothing. Then there was everything. He was alone and then he wasn't. He didn't hear the voice, he felt it vibrating in his bones, a chattering that surely should have shook him apart.

How pathetic it must feel to have all you could ever want in your hand and still not be happy.

He could sense the presence more. Ancient and knowing, primordial perhaps. It was everything. It's power leeched into him, wearing him away, surely this was all that was left. He wanted to say something. He wished he had something to say.

But there was nothing.

No, there is nothing in this world that can make a man like you feel content. Contentedness is your great enemy. You are too weak, too unmotivated, too lacking in willpower to slay this enemy.
