odd little monsters with scuttling claws
malicious eyes and ravenous maws
yet they seem loathe to join that what is seen
but what're they doing here, what do they mean?

they whisper your name in voices so small
sometimes you wonder if you're hearing them at all
don't look too close, don't guess what they are

so stay on the path and keep on the light
keep your step sure and you'll be all right
unless you listen to their whispering woes
and follow them down wherever they go
for if you do and you dare go astray
you'll never return to the light of the day
