In the Wasteland, primarily living in or around the Sanctum, there exists a native contingent of Aether who are almost universally afflicted with the same macroparasite. It encases the brain and acts as an extension of it, creating additional space to store information, and innate feedback for calculations. Advanced stages will also sprout tendril-like limbs from their foreshoulders, which can be used by the symbiont to manipulate objects. In return, the host feeds it and eventually passes it along to their children. These Aether tend to be different from their Arcane brethren in a few ways: they're perpetually hungrier, more laser-focused on a single task, and will often go dead silent and still for several minutes while they confer with their symbiont.

Phalera and Furcula, their brother, work in the Blight Sanctum as researchers. Er, worked in the Blight Sanctum, past tense. Rumor has it something... happened with the Sanctum project, and ever since then they've been unfortunately idle, and have taken up the equally unfortunate habit of roaming the Intestines and getting in the way of the exaltees. The Vultures are dealing with this by making them an errand runner, and Phalera's happy to do anything to stay busy.
