CAN YOU SEE IT IN MY EYES? AM I FINALLY AWAKE?

LORE I
The young Skydancer curled up on the comfy blanket nest that she had made earlier. Her eyes were slits as she stared through the open door. Distantly, she could hear her parents talking in a hushed whisper. Being the curious hatchling she was, she stood up and crept towards the door, their words becoming sharper the closer she got.
She peeked her head around the door, being careful to lie low, in case they were closer than she thought. Galaxy could see the shadow of her father as he paced back and forth. Involuntarily, she raised her head as she heard her name said.
“I don’t know what to do, dear. With Sky being missing, Galaxy and Plains are both perfectly good candidates for being the next queen.” It was the worried voice of her father.
“That’s true, but they’re both so young, I couldn’t bear putting the weight of becoming the queen of a kingdom on their small shoulders.”
Galaxy felt her antennae curl up, why would she become queen. Why would she deserve being queen? She wasn’t the firstborn. Or even second. She was the baby of the family. And besides, she didn’t want the weight of an entire kingdom on her back. It did not interest her.
She backed away, careful to not smash into anything. She didn’t care to hear more, or wake her sister. Galaxy slithered into her bed, curling up tightly. Even though she tried hard, two images popped into her head, fighting each other. Herself, with a crown, staring out at the dragons who inhabited the kingdom with her sister sulking in the background, becoming a shadow.
And the other image, her sister standing proudly with a crown on her head. And she wasn’t there. She shut her eyes tighter, trying to block out the image. Both were possibilities. And she wanted neither of them.
But she couldn’t have both. It was one or the other.

She didn’t sleep well that night. She jolted awake as her sister got out of bed. They held eye contact for a good minute before saying anything. Today was the day.
“Didn’t mean to wake you.” Plains mumbled a little as she moved towards the vanity, pulling out her jewelry and adorning herself with them.
Galaxy got up and followed suit, putting on the small pieces of jewelry she had. Like dawn and dusk they were. So far apart yet so, so similar.
She made sure that they wouldn’t fall off before crawling back onto her bed and laying there, staring at her sister as she adjusted her jewelry over and over. She was sure that Plains was stalling on talking to her.

At the same time

Eventually, her sister hopped back onto her bed and rolled over onto her back, staring back at her.
Silence.
Her antennae perked up as the door creaked open and a blue Nocturne peered her head in. “The king and queen are ready for you to go to the ceremony.” Her voice sounded wary as she glanced between the two of them.
Galaxy launched herself off the bed and ran out the door, nearly knocking the poor Nocturne over. Adrenaline filled her veins as she rushed through the halls. A few guards yelped as she pushed by them. She didn’t even think of saying sorry.
She slid around a corner, almost completely losing traction as she did so. She barely managed to stop herself when she noticed her parents standing in front of the balcony doors. She heard her father chuckle as she quickly scrambled to sit in the normal noble position that she had been taught.
Her sister stepped in beside her, sitting in the position with a flourish. Typical Plains.
The silence was so loud as two guards opened the two large doors that led to the balcony which overlooked the plaza of the kingdom. The sun shone directly into Galaxy’s face as the doors opened wide, revealing the hundreds and hundreds of dragons that stood, awaiting the coronation.
Her parents stepped in sync with each other while she and her sister followed without a word.
Now or never.
She let out a shaky breath as her parents started the ceremony, on a pedestal, sat a crown, from both Plains’ and Galaxy’s view, neither could see the gemstones that embellished the crown, a dead giveaway to who would become the next queen.
Her mother picked up the crown.
One.
Two.
Three.
She shouted out to the crowd, “Please welcome your next queen…”
She stepped back approaching her two daughters.
Four.
Five.
Six.
“Galaxy!”
The crown was placed atop her head and the crowd who seemed to be holding their breath broke into screams of delight, cheering her name and wordless shouts.
Galaxy couldn’t process what had happened, she had barely even heard her own name; after her mom had gotten out the first syllable the crowd had gone from a deafening silence to a crashing roar.
She felt her sister shift next to her.
“You won’t last a day as queen.” Her smug voice whispered, “I do wish you luck, sister.”
Galaxy wasn’t certain of it.
But she was sure that that last word was dripping with malice.
