Biography
He is watching the first thought. The arrogant one that gave itself a name and pressured everyone else into acquisition, pranced about.
He is watching because he could not be allowed his own name, and makes do with a lie instead. Lian, he calls himself, and unfurls his wings to show off the gentle pink patterns, soft as petals, like he's inviting for them to be touched.
He's moving a long black tail in slow deliberation. Sleek black scales traces through the mud with the strength of a river snake, determined to become something more. And yet. Wind. Air rivers, above water, cold rivers. None to touch. The water separate from the mud. The discrepancy makes him sick. Division like the organs of a body chopped and separated, different cuts of meat to be sold.
He knows with his long lifespan that a thing he could do is... to wait. The crumbling system is likely to tip, fall, crash to the floor, and it will be likely that he sees the return to interdependence once more.
The arrogant one is flapping wings wide, foot clutched around a ball of memories and pride the size of one's head. It pridefully proclaims its laws, the beauty of its new body, the solidness of its understanding.
He is much larger than the arrogant pearlwalker. A slow, lazy, cruel smirk begins to grow on his face as he thinks of the possibilities. The way that the arrogant pearlwalker looks at him, chatters about his lustrous wings and beautiful form, how in this story invented in the past century he and it shared...
He smiles. "And we will share," he growls.
And they will. An enormous circlesnake and a tiny pearlwalker, sharing a circlesnake's spice. How the pearlwalker will lap it up, clean it off of its pearl and feet and belly, and the fire of the roots will tap into its blood and tail, clutch its mind and chill its guts while it thrashes about in the throes of unnatural cold.
A circlesnake's venus spice. Yes, they will share it, on a sultry hot day. A circlesnake will enjoy the cool refreshment, topped with ice cubes, and soon after the pearlwalker would too.
----
"Still not ready to breed?" wheedles the circlesnake idly.
The pearlwalker is neither flushed nor offended by his churlish question. It puffs itself up further, and talks about how gracious it is to wait.
