Priestess of Elistraee “Mirmir” Thimaer'kerym, like all other Avariels born in Waterdeep, was taught to be a part of one sector of society or another. She was raised first in the art of peacekeeping, then as she came of age, as a warrior taught to harbor the shadows. In the end, she took to diplomacy. Took to, not chosen, for Mirmir does not believe she is fit for any of it. For, the Avariels shine so brightly; the fiercest warriors and most creative artisans. They were gifted, and while she was born under Elistraee's blessings, it does not show. She hesitates, she overthinks, and she finds herself at a loss of words more often than not. She's happiest when there's no one between her and Elistraee and the endless stars. She enjoys working with herbs and her ever growing collection of mushrooms and oddities. She can spend hours hidden in the swamps of the Mire, a dagger between her teeth because no Avariel is raised a fool, but examining different growths of lichen until the moonlight fades. She likes collecting the art her family brings, and staring at it for hours on end. So she makes a home for herself and her oddities in the Temple of Elistraee, and plays curator for the uninitiated. At least a hesitant spokesperson is less noticeable than a warrior who pauses before they swing. If she’s lucky it’ll be taken as thoughtfulness. She does her best, but it never feels like enough, and she worries that one day she shall be exposed for the lie she feels she is. It’s not the slightest bit true, and deep down she understands as such, but her mind has a voice of its own, and it is the harshest of critics.
Consulting the Augury
It is customary for young Avariels to consult with diviners near the time of their birth, or before important turning points in their lives. The old art is slowly taking route in Sornieth. The diviner rattles their satchel, shuffling the runes within before spilling them across the table. They read only those that are face up. Mirmir was born under the glow of Elistraee. Those born with those circumstances are known for their adaptability above all else. The largest rune revealed is the Physicality Rune. This implies Mirmir has inherited their penchant for poisons – or so her more cutthroat ancestors would claim. Expertise in poisons is all but guaranteed for Elistraee’s favored, but the truth is their skill expands to all realms of potion making and many sects of alchemy as well. It is a finicky science and an even more temperamental art, but the best potion makers can miracles happen. Some day, Mirmir may be among them. Two smaller runes deign to explain her future. In the realm of communication, Mirmir will have the most consistent record. Communication refers to Mirmir's ability to gage truth and honest intent from those around her. What’s good will remain, and what’s cursed will persist. Fate will push hardest against attempts to change this aspect. In contrast, her most volatile aspect in life will be her spirituality. Spirituality refers to Mirmir's place in the loom of fate, as decided by the deities - those of Avariels, and Sornieth alike. She is advised to hold tightly to the best parts of this aspect, because it is only a matter of time before they disperse. To complete the reading, one close to Mirmir selects the final rune. Serenity, her mother, finds the rune for family, bestowing the most sincere blessing in the eye of fate. |
