Biography

Cast out of his nest at a young age, Marble was a Coatl doomed to misfortune because of his pale coloring. He had to fend for himself in the thorny thickets of the Tangled Wood, but the realm of the Shadowbinder was the perfect place to hide his unfortunate plumage. There, he learned to sneak and spy and play all sorts of tricks. He became like the Nocturnes, a prankster who was forever unseen. He greatly enjoyed the mimicry and the games that the Shadow Flight is so well-known for, but he still felt something was missing. He was being called back to the Emberglow Hearth, a pull felt by all Coatls around the world. Knowing he was an outcast due to his white and grey feathers, he sought to brighten himself up by donning garments of a deep crimson. He made his way to the Flamecaller's domain, nervous but eager to see what would happen. He stayed at a distance, watching the others quietly, soaking in all that he could. Finally, he stepped out into the open, mimicking what he had seen the other male Coatls do in order to attract their mates. And yet, as he wandered among the rivulets of lava, he felt cold gazes all around. Despite his efforts, he was still a symbol of bad luck. Feeling dismayed, he traveled westward, too disheartened to make the long journey back to his hiding place among the dark trees. As he wandered, he felt the sharp volcanic stone turn to plush green grass, and the bubbling of molten rock turned to a soft whispering of the wind. Marble closed his eyes as a breeze ruffled his feathers, relaxing in the warm, gentleness of it. The air was fresh and sweet, and none seemed to care that he was as pale as the Icewarden's snow-covered floes. Here, the Windsinger's children played in the breeze, and the reeds sang a happy tune. There was no longer a need to hide; Marble was finally home.
