Smoothie

Smoothie looks up at the night sky once again. It’s late, and she’s been traveling for a while. The stars always comfort her while she is on the road. Smoothie could take this time to rest up, but by her calculations she should be almost there. She is almost at her destination. And the road she has been following isn’t too dangerous, even by night. So, Smoothie is content with only taking the occasional quick glance at the stars while still staying on course.

But somehow, things feel different tonight. Is the sky a little more purple, or is Smoothie imagining things? She keeps tabs on the road, but a weird, uneasy feeling slowly creeps over her. As if she should be taking cover. Like a thunderstorm is getting ready to strike her. It’s just paranoia, right? To be expected when traveling alone at night, right?

And then, suddenly, the sky lights up in a flash of bright pink. Smoothie looks up and sees a meteor shower unlike any other she has ever seen. Bright pinks and purples flash across the night sky and it’s beautiful, but it’s also somehow sending off warning signs. And Smoothie can receive those signals perfectly. She looks around her, a feeling of dread and panic quickly washing over her, and spots a hollowed out rock wall close by. A cave just big enough to house a dragon like her! She hurries towards it without thinking twice, dashing past the falling stars with incredible speed. One crashes close to her and she can avoid it just in time… Only to be thrown off her balance and trip, falling onto her back.

There’s a moment of dizziness before Smoothie can focus again. But, one moment is enough. A meteor falls right towards her and she’s never going to be fast enough to move out of its way. Smoothie tries to close her eyes and brace for impact, but it’s strangely beautiful… And her earlier fear has almost completely left her body… So Smoothie keeps her eyes glued on the falling star.
