I belong to MrSmitty.
One day Syn found the clan's migration flight and decided to follow along. He was welcomed into the clan and given the darker area of the den for his nest. As years crawled by the leader passed away with no heir declared. What followed was a long heated debate as to who should lead.
In accordance to the bylaws any who wished to have their name put forth as leader must bring something to the clan as a gift for all to share. Most brought out the shiniest baubles and trinkets from their hoards. Syn who had no treasures to offer thought long and hard as to what he could offer the clan as a gift. When brilliance struck him, and he knew exactly what to offer.
"Potential leader Synthetic what have you to give the clan?" the Tribunal asked looking at him for his gift.
"I have no riches or treasures to share. I have no children or mate to help me with my gift but I give this with all my heart." he declared softly. Slowly he looked at the Tribunal and stepped forward to the place where all the other gifts had been laid. "I offer myself to the clan"
The Tribunal laughed deep and heartedly. "Well done youngling you have proved yourself by the ancient traditions. Only those willing to give of themselves to serve all are worthy of being our Alpha."
The rest as they say is history.
