A pearlcatcher was hatched into a prestigious family of plague magi, one to the many that have kept the nature magic of the Seedscar from spreading since the very beginning. However, instead of abhorring nature magic as expected, he was completely fascinated by it.

He loved nature.

Loved feeling the way the magic felt around him. Nature magic was full of warmth and life. The family he had been born into felt like death and despair. They had known something was off with their son when they saw green in his eyes; a small spark of nature within him. They did their best to discourage this and tried to push him to study their magic so that he could one day help maintain the Seedscar.

Whenever his family wasn’t breathing down his neck he would sneak off to Viridian Labyrinth to immerse himself in nature. However it couldn’t last. His parents eventually found out what he’d been doing and named him a traitor to his heritage. After a massive argument he fled from the Wasteland to the Viridian Labyrinth; the only place he’d ever felt at ease.

During his numerous visits to the Labyrinth he’d heard of Pearl Cerdae and their connection to nature. As he travelled across Sornieth he vowed to become one, changing his name to Calen and fully abandoning his plague ridden origins.
