clown | creative | macabre | strange mate: N/A | PAIR RANGE Hatched from a pair of extravagant performers, Brahms often felt overshadowed. His colorful, vibrant parents regularly put on shows of death-defying stunts and side-splitting comedy while Brahms watched from the sidelines, wishing to join their act but hesitating every time. Instead, he would perform before his familiar, a calico ferberus. He told jokes, sang macabre tunes, and perfected his act for the nonjudgmental ferberus, but had yet to emerge from backstage. For years, Brahms was content to raise curtains and mend costumes, but then his parents announced that they would be leaving the Sanctuary. For their act had gained such popularity that the Plaguebringer herself wished to be audience to their antics. The Sanctuary prepared a magnificent banquet in their honor, but Brahms's stomach churned. He applauded his parents' accomplishment. For what greater honor than to act as the Plaguebringer's personal performers? Yet, without them, who would bring entertain the Sanctuary? When the feast ended, Brahms admitted his worries to his parents yet they smiled. They called his worries foolish. For Brahms was perfectly capable of entertaining the Sanctuary. So long as he performed with heart and passion, he could not fail. He only need stop comparing himself to other dragons. Taking their words to heart, Brahms laid his heads to rest. He dreamed of his debut: not a colorful spectacle as his parents, but an eerie wonderland of his own creation. One of disjointed tunes, gruesome visuals, and dark comedy. He'd entrance his audience and bow to his own applause. The next morning, he awoke in good spirits and bade his parents farewell. Upon their departure, he announced his premier. The following week, he would perform before the Sanctuary. Whispers spread throughout the clan. No one knew what to expect of the quiet Brahms, but they were eager for a performance so in a week's time, the Sanctuary's dragons gathered around the stage and waited. Soon, the lights dimmed and the curtains rose. The clan looked not at a shy aberration, but a painted clown. Brahms had made his face to look as a smiling phantom and wore unique ruffled garments of his own design. The audience waited in bated breath and Brahms started his opening number: a modified version of a lullaby his parents sang now an eerie duet with himself. Silence fell over the audience, as if they had fallen into a trance until Brahms concluded and bowed. Thunderous applause followed. The dragons demanded more and Brahms gladly obliged. Now Brahms's performances draw in crowds. For so long as he takes the stage, the Sanctuary will never know a dull day.
