Biography
Rauni is a forest spirit with many forms. She joined Penumbra when the progenitor was looking for a place to make her permanent cave. She ended up leaving the forests of the sunbeam ruins, but she occasionally makes the journey back to visit her sisters.
Reaching behind her shoulder blades, Rauni untied the leather cord knotted around her neck. Taking the end in one hand, she drew her arm around herself, and with it came the string, which was threaded with thin, rectangular wooden chips, each stamped with a slightly glowing rune. Penumbra was taken aback, because she’d thought that the chips were part of some kind of elaborate woodland dress, however the shift she wore underneath was plain and unremarkable.
Pulling the cord clear of her body, she gave a sudden tug, and the chips clattered to the earthen floor. She closed her eyes, passing a hand briefly through the air and muttering an incantation, and the chips jumped to life, shivering and attaching themselves to one another around the young girl, clicking into place. A form began to reveal itself; it was snakelike and lithe, with four clawed legs. The wooden slats had overlapped to form a type of reptilian skin, and when at last the final chip slid into place, it drew out leafy wings and antlers sprouted from it's head. Finally, two bright wisps of golden light flickered from it's eye sockets and the dragon grinned.
As the creature seemed to breathe, the small wooden rectangles covering it's body lifted with the motion, and then flatten, fitting back into place. Every breath was like this, causing the creature to inflate and deflate much like a forge billow. A low growl erupted from it's center as Rauni's musical voice filtered from deep inside. “Well, let's get a move on!”
