She had read all the self-help books she could find, but nothing could beat the real thing. Well, almost real thing. Nyx and Soteria were both intimidating in their own way, but she could at least hold a conversation with Nyx longer. So here she was, anxiously tossing from foot to foot as she waited for her time to shine. Nyx gave her a nod, and she sprang into action. Trying to remember what he told her: Head raised, shoulders up, meet their eyes, and try to be confident. She opened her mouth, and let out a deep whine. Nyx looked amused, and she huffed in frustration, collapsing down to the ground and covering her head with her wings. "I don't know how I'm supposed to do this. She's so-" Nyx came up and nuzzled her gently before she could finish. "Love, if you truly want this you just need to ask her. This clearly isn't helping." She knew he was right, but if she couldn't even practice with him how was she supposed to do the real thing? All she wanted was an expansion to the library. With all the books she had been collecting, and all the new findings she had been recording, the library was getting mighty crowded. Plus, it would be helpful to actually be able to have guests enjoy her library as well, something that definitely wasn't happening now. She just needed permission from their matriarch, Soteria. Resources were tight amongst the clan, and being fairly new here she wasn't sure where she stood amongst the hierarchy yet. Nyx and Soteria were two peas in a pod, but she had struggled fitting in here. Ever since she found and fixed up the old abandoned library they had discovered, she had spent almost every waking moment there. Besides Nyx, she struggled to find much companionship. "Soteria values your opinions. Why can't you just ask her for me?". She mumbled to Nyx, lifting herself off the ground and giving him a pout. He wasn't looking at her though, he was looking behind her. "Ask me what?" Shyla squeeked and whipped around to face who spoke. Speak of the devil. Soteria, shining like a bright golden star, approached them. Nyx nudged her forward with amusement twinkling in his eyes and whispered, "Go on", to her as he backed away slightly. Soteria looked at her curiously, and Shyla wanted to flee. No, be brave. The library is important. "Well, I had a proposal!" She half squeeked - half screamed. Soteria nodded to her to go on. "I-uh, the library! Needs expansion! No room for much else!" She continued, and Soteria just blinked at her. There was an uncomfortable silence between the two for a moment before Nyx cleared his throat from behind Shyla. Taking the cue, Soteria broke the silence. "Right, I can't see why not." Shyla smiled widely and beamed with excitement. "G-great! I have the plans in my nest, let me fetch them!" She didn't wait for a reply, and dashed off. It was happening! |
