An eternal punishment had never seemed so ill-fitting, as it seemed when Archeon turned his eyes upon his unhatched siblings. Their parents were too trusting, allowing their firstborn son unfettered access to their nest. Perhaps Veradis knew, and was silently begging for Archeon to punish Lethia... Yes, that has to be it.

The great black wolf prepared to destroy the eggs, but upon the first blow Archeon was not greeted with a dead hatchling, but a squirming, live one. The first-smashed squealed upon seeing Archeon's pale eyes, and darted away on pure instinct, escaping underneath a heavy wooden dresser. The second-smashed ran underneath the bed, squeaking and flapping their wings all the way. The third-smashed bit Archeon's hand and leapt to the window, and escaped into the night.

Archeon growled and stomped, but the hatchlings were too nimble and fast for him to catch, and eventually the oldest of Lethia's spawn gave up and retreated. By the time Veradis returned to his nest, his children were gone; he was only left with the remnants of eggshells as evidence for Archeon's crime.

And the hatchlings? They never risk returning to their father, their fear of their oldest brother's wrath too potent to ever consider a reunion.
