Biography

Long ago, Bryde was the leader of her own clan. As such, she was immediately called upon to protect them when a vampiric dragon attacked the lair in the night.

It was the most difficult fight she'd ever encountered. Thrown off by the creature's unnatural strength and speed, she barely managed to avoid its ferocious blows and snapping jaws. Bryde knew she was the only thing standing between this monster and her beloved clan--losing wasn't an option.

Just as she felt a glimmer of hope--she might actually win this!--she saw movement from the direction of her lair. She snarled, who had disobeyed her orders to stay sheltered at home? Her gut wrenched as she recognized the figure. Victor! He was holding something shouting to her about stabbing the creature through the heart. She cried out for him to run, to stay back--and was overtaken by the foul beast.

As it began feasting upon her, Victor roared loudly and, despite his being no kind of warrior, rushed the villain and managed to knock him off of Bryde. The vampire wasted no time in turning its fangs onto Victor in her place.

Engulfed in slaking its thirst, it didn't notice as Bryde stumbled to her feet behind them. She grabbed hold of the stake Victor had dropped and drove it into the beast's foul heart, throwing all her strength from years of battle behind the blow. The vampire let out a terrible shriek and crumbled to the ground.

Bryde rushed to victor, attempting to rouse him, and her heart was torn asunder as she realized she had been too late to save him. She allowed herself a moment to feel him in her arms one last time, her stoic warrior's façade cracking as she let out a broken sob. Quickly, she pulled away, knowing what she had to do.

Bryde could already feel an unfamiliar hunger forming in the pit of her stomach. She was tainted. She clasped the wooden stake still protruding from the beast which had so quickly destroyed everything she had. Her shaking claws brought the crude wooden weapon up, positioned directly over her heart, and--she steadied herself, drawing in a deep breath and trying not to think of the home she could never safely return to, of the lover lost too soon. Her resolve cracked for a moment and she glanced back at sweet Victor.

He was moving! She must have been mistaken, he'd survived! Foolishly, desperately, she thought that perhaps the monster had only bludgeoned him and she'd acted quickly enough to spare him it's fangs... She rushed to him once more. As she grew closer, however, it became clear that Victor had fallen to the same fate as she had.

She glanced down at the wooden stake still in her claws, quickly returning her gaze to her lover. Must she do to him what she had been about to do to herself?

He finally turned his head to look at her and she immediately threw the stake away. She knew in her heart that she could never bring herself to kill him. But she also knew she couldn't allow either of them to become murderous fiends terrorizing innocent dragons for their own benefit--likely to start with their own precious home lair in their blind bloodlust.

She took to the air, scooping up Victor. He felt... Lighter, somehow, in her arms. Or was she stronger?

They settled as far from any other dragon as they could manage. Their first year as vampires was a blur of hunger and grief over their lost lives, but as they learned to control their need to feed they gradual came back to rationality.

Second part of the story is in Victor's Bio...
